I was at Barnes and Nobles last night and saw a book called the Rosedale Diet. Read it...sounded interesting, but a little more strict than the regular diets out there. It advocates using supplements, but mostly it's a low calorie and low carb type book. Dr. Rosedale is supposed to be a metabolic specialist and in a way even says this diet can "reverse" type 2 diabetes. Personally I have a hard time believing it, but I was wondering if anyone on this board has heard of it?

Thanks!

For those interested, here is a now famous article (actually a transcript of a lecture from 1999, called "Insulin and Its Metabolic Effects) by Dr. Rosedale on the Mercola site (it's very long but well worth the read):

Sharona I have been eating Low Carb (Atkins) since the new year. I joined a "Low Carb" board for support and members there had a discussion about this way of eating after it appeared in one of the Womens Magazines. Most who made comments thought that it sounded good but remember the people who were discussing this are all long time low carbers who have been very sucessful in losing weight and regaining their health so their bias would be towards this type of eating. From what I have read of Rosedales writings I agree with these ideas, but it is up to each individual to decide for themself. What works for one is not necessarily good for another.
Whatever you do, Do it for yourself and I wish you sucess.

The information below was copied from another place. I hope I haven't done the wrong thing by including
the link for Sharona. Regards Holly

THE ROSEDALE DIET...Anyone heard of it?
I bought this book after reading about the program in WOMAN'S WORLD.
Here is the description from the inside flap (I haven't read the book yet...just got it)

Finally, the ultimate diet for fast, safe weight loss, lifelong health, and longer life, based on more than twenty years of research and the latest findings on appetite and weight. Metabolic specialist Ron Rosedale, M.D. has designed the Rosedale Diet to regulate the powerful hormone leptin, which controls appetite and weight loss by telling the brain when to eat, how much to eat..and when to stop. New research shows that leptin may be one of the body's most important hunger control mechanisms. Control leptin, and you control your weight.

Most people's leptin levels are out of control, causing them to overeat and to store fat rather then burn it. The only way to flip the "hunger switch" back to normal is through a diet high in healthy fats and low in carbohydrates., saturated fat, and tran-fatty acids often found in processed food...plus just 15 minutes of daily exercise.

Dr Rosedale's 21 day diet plan is simple: Just select from the many foods on his "A" list, including healthy-fat foods such as avocados, nuts, olives, lobster, crab, shrimp, goat cheese, Cornish game hen, venison, and more. Then gradually add foods from the "B" list, such as steak, lamb chops, fruits, beans and so on. A 28 day menu plan and more than 100 recipes, such as Dilled Salmon and Fresh Asparagus, Gingery Chicken soup, Lasagna, Black Bean Wrap, Raspberry Mouse Cake, and French Silk Pie, make eating the Roseale way deliciously easy.

Weight lossisjust the beginning. The Rosedale Diet wil make you feel satisfied, reduce cravings, and put you in control of your "sweet tooth." It can even help eliminate or reduce heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and other conditions associaed with "natural"aging, as many of Dr Rosadales's patients can attest. You'll find inspiring stories from them..and the power to control your weight and improve your health..in this groudbreaking book.

Dr Rosedale is an internationally renowned expert in nutritional and metabolic medicine and an anti-aging specialist. He is the founder of the Rosedale Center in Denver, cofounder of the ColoradoCenter for Metabolic Medicine in Boulder, and the Carolina Center of Metabolic Medicine in Asheville, NC. Dr Rosedale has helped thousands suffering from so-called incurable
diseases to regain their health.

This is NOT a high protein diet, but a HIGH FAT DIET, focusing on GOOD FATS.

If you do your home work and know exactly what you must do. The only way the find out if something works is if you give it a try.  If you get results that are significant than it doesn't matter if the whole world tells you it's "dangerous" or unhealth. Personally I don't follow any plan but eating the best whole foods I can get. Some foods I eat are higher in carbs but most are not and many are high in mono and saturated fats. Only about 10% - 15% of my fat intake is polyunsaturated fat. I eat very little trans fats from some occasional junk food. The best thing for you, the enviornment and the local economy is to buy local organic foods when possible. I'm lucky to get free range onganic meat, poultry, whole grains / flour, eggs, lard, cream, milk, cheese and butter. All the dairy foods are raw and clean. I should know because I know where my food comes from this way and who prepares it.  Today there are over 350 regular customers at this farm. The FDA even stopped out because of all the sales and now inspects the meat- fine by me but I don't feel the need personally.
Food can give what you need for your body to protect itself from toxins and prevent that glucose high and low which will shorten your life and lower your quality of living. That '99 lecture of Dr. Rosedale's practice is a classic example of real life results based on how the body works and by treating the cause of the problems not by treating symtoms with drugs or surgery. It is a must read. I posted this link over a year ago and it generated interest. It just makes sense.
