Hello, I am having depression over massive weight gain. I had lost 54 lbs and within approximately 7 to 8 weeks gained it back. Nothing in my doiet had changed or my exercise habits. Since the initial weight gain, I have gained another 8 lbs. I am not eating hardly anything because of fear of gaining more and my sugar has went crazy. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do or why this is happening? I am really worried. I spoke with my doctor this morning about this and she told me that she would rather me talk with my endo about this but it is alomost two months before I get to see him. I ask for a closer appt. and was told if someone canceled then maybe I could get in closer. I am sick of the crying and wondering. I already have depression problems and this is really making it worse. Any help is so very appreciated. Tammie (sorry for the long post) |

(((((Tammie)))) Take a deep breath and give yourself a break. You lost weight before and if you choose, you can do it again. Don't beat yourself up over the past...just start from now into the future. When you are ready, ask yourself some questions: 1) What is getting in your way? 2) How do you feel about food? 3) How do you feel when you eat? When you determine how you react to food, you can make a realistic effort at changing your behavior concerning food. And it is possible that other issues are affecting your weight. Could it be the meds? Fluid retention? Have you benn thoroughly examined by your endo for thyroid or other metabolic problems? Be realistic and honest. If you are just plain eating too much and not exercising, you know why you gainned weight. When you are ready, as I said, you can change. You need to want it for yourself. Start from today...you'll have tons of support...one step at a time... sheryl |

Ok, here goes, kick the depression out the door...it isn't helping you...now try writing down everything you eat...everything...no matter how small an amount...next, don't wait until you're hungry to eat, you'll eat too much before you know it...plan your meals...and plan to eat about 6 times a day...yep, 6 times...small amounts, this way you're never hungry and your bgs never vary to much...next, check the side affects of any and all meds you are taking...drink plenty of water...at least 10 8ox glasses a day, (you may not be able to drink that much at first, that is OK, work toward it) and last but not least plan exercise...20 minutes to start work up to an hour, this does not have to be done all at one time...10 minutes at a time is OK or whatever you're able to do..and go to the internet, lots of good eating ideas here...s/f jello is a great snack, strawberries....(and remember, your water doesn't have to be all water...juice, jello, milk are all liquids and count towards the total) |

Oh yeah, also, not eating enough will actually make you gain weight, or at least keep you from losing |

Ah I'd just sit back a minute and catch your breath. I would sit down and think about what you have done in the past 7-8 weeks, how much you've gained, what your medication status is right now, etc. The next question would be, ok, what am I eating and what is my exercise like? If your exercise routine has remained the same, then it's not unreasonable that you could have gained some weight back. As your body gets "used" to the routine, it is more efficient at it, and burns less calories per workout. Gotta continually change it up. There are a myriad of things to look at in your lifestyle right now. That's a good thing!!! That means you have a lot of options to choose from to help. Maybe it is not exercise, maybe it is not diet. Who knows. You have to look at that stuff. Then you've got us and your doctor to help. Don't be afraid to figure things out and post it. There are people on this board who are good at figuring things out like this. Hang in there. Dunbar |

Tam you got a lot of good advise I'd just like to add could it be fluid buildup ? do you notice any swelling around your ankles, hands?. This is something to discuss with your endo, thats awful that you have to wait 2 months. Hang in there Tam. Try and not let this get to you, hold on untill you can see your endo. MaryB |

((((((((hugs Tammie))))))))) You got some really good advise, hun. You DO need to eat. Like Cora said - eating some smaller meals. Keep a list of all you eat. Write down everything that goes into your mouth. See if you can see a pattern. Did you acutally get to see your doctor? You didn't mention what meds you are on. I was sitting thinking I would be frantic if I gained 54 pounds in 7 to 8 weeks. I am assuming your regular doctor thinks it is diabetic related. And your doctor wasn't concerned? And the endo didn't want to see you immediately - that should help put your mind at some ease, Right? Could be you are holding water - but that doesn't mean not to drink water, ok. Drinking water helps to flush out your system. Something is causing you to gain weight - it has to be frustrating not knowing what it is. Please let us know how it's going. Hugs, angelbear |
