I would like to thank everyone who has put a comment here or asked a question reference the new online search database Deceased Online.  I sent the comments etc onto Richard who is the guy I am in contact with and i have received the reply i have posted below.  Any comments or questions posted after this message was received i have saved and will be forwarding to Richard next time we are in contact as you will see by his response to me they are impressed with what you have all had to say and really would like as much imput as possible from us all, as Richard said to me Genealogy is not just a hobby that is going to go away and is going to get bigger as time goes on and the more imput they receive they hope to get the site up and running and running in a way that it will be of great use to researchers like ourselves.  So once again thank you all for your imput and please send me more the more i have to send the better it will be for them to be able to help get us a site we can use with ease and also not cost us a fortune at the same time.  So fire away everyone the more the merrier.

Best wishes

Dee

Richard wrote on 18th May,

Thanks for the notes, very interesting and useful.  I've shared them with my colleagues at Deceased Online and I'm sure, like me, they'll find them very interesting.  As you say, we're concentrating on getting the website up-and-running and getting data up-loaded but we very much want to get lots of user/customer feedback.

I'll keep you posted on getting a formal testing/user process set up but hopefully we can do something in a few weeks.

Kind regards
Richard

Anything  i have received after that date will be forwarded to him within the next couple of weeks and i will post any information as and when i receive it.

Marian,  Regarding this Deceased Online site which is supposed to be free for a limited period
Only the search the index section is free but the free period expired in July and you have to pay for credits to view the whole record
I was informed today by a very indignant member who got onto the site
I did some index searches yesterday but didn't go into the full records

Hi Liz

I didn't realise the "free" time on Deceased Online had expired.  What a shame.  I did also try a few searches - but without success, which is disappointing.  I had had high hopes that it was going to be such a useful site.  I always try to use free sites as much as possible.

Marian,  I usually avoid paid sites if I can.  I told my members about the site thinking it was free for a little while which didn't turn out to be correct but never mind we will plough on as usual
Quite a few of our members belong to ancestry.com and a Scottish site where you have to purchase credits
as I know you can't always do it for free

Hi Liz

I do apologise for misleading you re the above.  My intentions were the best!

An excellent alternative to Ancestry is Find My Past, which I find to be very good indeed.

Marian,  Don't worry I should have checked it out properly before I posted the site as I had only checked out the searches
If you mean Find my Past immigration records we have used them as a guide but you have to pay there as well for full records
If another site do you have the URL as it may not be the same site
I think some of our members are used to getting info free & don't want to have to pay to access records.  I admit it does add up when you have quite a few bdm certificates to buy but we are lucky here as we have registered transcription agents who can access the records much cheaper than getting them through the official bdm registry office. They also do english/welsh records(BDM) if anyone wants the site I will post the web address

Liz
