Can anyone find a lead for me on a marriage in Kings County, Ireland or Hereford, England for Charles Rock born in 1801 or 1802 to Ann ? born in1798? Ann Rock was tried in Kings County in 1826 arriving in Australia aboard the Elizabeth II in 1828 and Charles was tried in Hereford on 23rd March, 1829 and arrived in Australia aboard the Katharine ( aka Catherine) Stewart Forbes in 1830. Both were said to be married with three children but Ann had only one child with her when she was at the Female Factory. Ann died in Parramatta in 1845 but I have been unable to find a recorded death for Charles. | |

Mike, This last Charles is actually the one born as Thomas in NSW but details on his Victorian Death Cert. show him as "Charlie", the name he was obviously known by. That has been converted in bdm to "Charles" so a lot of people had put that information online until I sent them copies of the DC which I had had since 1999, not realising who he really was. All of the details on the DC are otherwise correct, wife, date and place of marriage in NSW, ages of children born in both NSW and Victoria. This Thomas was the son of convict Michael Rock from County Down and Isabella Eltis and the father of Michael Rock the younger who I think became Henry Edwin Rock after his trial in Yass in 1865, where I now know all charges were dismissed, and was later a sailor. As I said before I think this is the right track BUT there is still the Charles and Ann reference to put to rest before I publish it as fact. Norma |

Mike, This site looks good but I do have the Hereford trial details for Charles who arrived here in 1830 so wouldn't expect to find more there. It is what happened to him after he arrived that I am stuck with. Haven't yet had a chance to look for a Ticket of Leave because I was tied up helping a friend out all day today. Norma |

Hi Mike, Charles didn't have a TOL because he had a Conditional Pardon No. 46/251 in 1846 but when I tried to locate it I came up 'not found' except on one site which had him as Charles RUCK. That was one which required membership to view so I didn't go any further there as they had that mistake already. Thank you for that great info on Ann Rock ux Pinder or Pender. Can you explain ux and NR for me please. It is a shame that she died the year after her TOL though when she was only 47 years old. There would appear to be a connection to Hugh Rock if they were all from King's Kilbride. I have come across him before, possibly in my New Zealand research. |

Mike, I found more info on Charles Rock today in our Library which has a great Repository of old record books as well as the reels, fiche, CDs etc. Some things there don't appear online for some reason but I found him 'owned by' William Alderson at Windsor on the 1837 Return of Convicts. Leanne from nsw group had found him in the 1841 Census as Charles RUCK at Windsor arriving in 1830 aboard Katharine Stewart Forbes which fits exactly for Charles Rock so somewhere along the name a spelling error was made. I still couldn't find a death using the other spelling either, in case that error had been repeated. I did get the TOL information on Ann from the site but couldn't find her marriage as Pinder or Pender but I'm still following up all that stuff you gave me. As always I am saying Thanks Mike. Do you have any information on the MSN closedown of the groups? Liz first thought it was another hoax but she now says it IS going to happen and she is looking at alternatives. It will be hard to find anything as good as we have here with such great managers and helpful members. Norma |
