Hi there, at the start of week 5, and still doing OK on bup. Slowly bringing the dose down as I would like to get off it and go on to naltrexone. Has anyone out there done this and what sort of withrawl should I be expecting?

As I've said in the past, this really does work, life has been fairly straight forward, a few days depressed but I guess that would happen anyway. I'm just a bit concerend about becoming dependent on bup, so want to lower the dose and see what happens.

Also, I have been given clonidine for just in case. I don't know much about it, and my fairly thick doctor couldn't even give me a reason why he gave it to me, apart from this is what is given out, like some sort of mechanical medical service. It does seem to reduce anxiety but is it dangerous taken continuously? Can any fun be had on it?

cheers to all, and thanks for being a fountain of good thoughts, advice and even just a great way to kill time, which seems to move so much slower these days.

Hi Movingon-  My name's Marco & I'm new here.  I went on bup a couple months ago.  But not to detox, as kind of a maintenance thing.  I'm planning on staying on it for who knows how long.  It does help with cravings although I still get 'em their not as strong.  But one thing about being on bup is that you can't get high from other opiates while you're on it.

For me, it was either this or a methadone maintenance program.  I think MM would work better, but since docs can prescribe a month's worth of bup now, that's the choice I made.

Anyway, I don't know anything about withdrawal from bup.  I've heard if you taper off it slowly that it's barely noticeable.  Keep posting about how it's going- one day I will want to come off bup and I want to know what it's like for you.

Good luck with your detox and all else.
Marco.

Hi Marco,

Unfortunately in Australia there is no legislation as yet to have 'take aways' with bup, so it's a daily trip to the chemist, althougth I ma abou to go on a dose that will last two days. Not that it's any harder than going to a dealer once a day but I'd still like to feel that I could be trusted to adminsiter it myself. It's not as though you get a high from it. I am happy with the way it's working for the moment just don't want to be tied to the one place by having to make a daily visit.
I think it's much better than going on meth and it would seem that getting off it is much easier.
The cravings aren't too bad, it's more psychological I think, some days you just want to be naughty. But I certainy don't miss wasting all that money and hanging out for the man to show. At least the chemist is always where he's supposd to be and keeps regular hours.

good luck with yours and keep swapping info.

cheers

Hi Marco,

I just thought I would fill you in on my experience with Bupe withdrawal.  It is HELL.  I was on 16mg a day for 2 months, then tapered over the course of three weeks.  I took my last dose of 2mg.  I was ok for 2 days, on the third all hell broke loose.  It was EXACTLY the same as heroin withdrawal which includes but isn't limited to: Vomiting, stomache cramps, bone aches, extreme fatigue and lethargy.  I couldnt eat a thing and couldn't sleep till the 4th day.  Extreme depression and saddness.  It's awful.  I am sorry I stayed on it soo long.  If I were you do not stay on it longer that a month.  This drug is powerfully addictive, I had no idea.  Just use it to wean off of your original addiction, but try and get by on the smallest dose possible and try to wean as quickly as possible.  Just keep in mind that everyone is different ok?  I don't want to scare you but just wanted to tell you of my experience with bupe.  Good luck <>< Peace

that last post scares me. I need to use Bupe for a bit longer i think that the 5 day detox. Having said that, i only had 3 days of 4mg and am on 2 yesterday and 2 today. I will then go back to 2mg when i get back from holiday in a week.

I do not want to have withdrawls.

I am in Australia too so i understand moving on's frustration about 'take-aways' .... i have to travel everyday which i pretty damn hard considering i work an office job and do long hours. But its better than the H option - i know that.
