Is there anyone who still lives in the Chicago area and would be willing to take some headstone pictures at Mt. Hope Cemetery? Thanks in advance.

This sounds like something for RAOGK, if you can find a volunteer.

go to Frequently Asked Questions and read the questions and replies so that you know what to expect and what is expected of you.  You might know that I have used their services and am very satisfied.  Unable to always be able to commit to "passing it forward"  I do my service through IKK and other forums.

When you are done with the Q & A part, you'll be able to search for volunteers, and see if there are any who work in the area of Mt. Hope Cemetery, and do that sort of research.  Make sure you know exactly where the cemetery is and all other information you can offer for the volunteer to make his or her decision.

If and when you are helped by RAOGK, remember your committment to "pass it forward."  Even if you are not helped, sometimes volunteering is the way to trade information for information and get what you need in the long run.

I have relatives buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery and plan to go there when the ground dries up or we get a hard freeze.  The older sections are in terrible shape and the ground is all mud, as well as the roads in some areas.

I don't remember the name of the section. But I know how to find their grave sites. The both passed away in 1998. My father died in March and my uncle died in December of that year.

Jacqe:

First, thank you so much for answering my plea!
Okay, I do not know what section they are buried in but is it possible for me to call the cemetery and get that information prior to your visit? I have never tried that and do not know if they allow that. That said I will list who is there:

Henry J. Warren
b. 26 July 1865 Chicago, Cook, IL
d. 5 April 1912 Probably Blue Island, IL
s/o William Warren and Emily Caroline (Searle) Warren of England

Emily Jane (Hill) Warren
wife of Henry J. Warren
d/o Thomas George Hill and Hannah Maria (Warren) Hill of England
b. 10 January 1866 Totnes, Devon, England
d. 14 February 1949 Probably Blue Island, IL

George William Warren
s/o Henry J. Warren and Emily Jane (Hill) Warren
b. 27 May 1889 Geneseo, Henry, IL
d. 25 June 1961 Blue Island, Cook, IL
h/o Bertha Johanna (Hoch) Warren

Bertha Johanna (Hoch) Warren
wife of George William Warren
d/o William and Caroline (or Lena) () Hoch of Germany
b. 21 September 1895 West Pullman, Cook, IL
d. 3 November 1985 Grand Rapids, Kent, MI

By my understanding, there is more than one Mt. Hope Cemetery in Cook, so this is the one located at 11500 South Fairfield Road (or Avenue, not sure which).

The following may also be buried there, but I am not sure:

William Warren (abt. 1838 England - between 1880 and 1900 IL)
husband of Emily Caroline (Searle) Warren of England

Emily Caroline (Searle) Warren (abt. 1839 England - between 1880 and 1900 IL)
w/o William Warren of England

Children of William and Emily (Searle) Warren:
Elizabeth (abt. 1864 IL-?)
Albert (abt. 1868 IL-?)
Caroline (abt. 1872 IL-?)
William (abt. 1875 IL-?)

Any of these children of Henry J. and Emily (Hill) Warren:
Charles Cecil Warren (3 Nov 1891-29 Aug 1918 IL)
Henry Hetcheum Warren (22 Dec 1894-31 March 1964 IL)
Henrietta Pansy (Warren) McDougall (13 Dec 1905-22 May 1973), w/o James Napier McDougall of Scotland (28 Mar 1899-March 1893)
Henrietta's husband, James Napier McDougall (WWI Vet, RAF I believe)

I really appreciate your offer of assistance and if I can find the phone number of the cemetery and if they will be helpful in return I will try to get locations for you. Can you give me an idea when you would be? I don't know about Chicago, but it has been raining a lot out her in Maryland.

Pamela

I don't know how big that cemetery is, but if you can't reach them you might be able to find the number for a local funeral home.  They might be able to tell you how to find out where the records are kept.

I will take the names and find out the location when I go. I have recently
found out my great-grandparents are there also, so I have to find out where
they are too. Like I said it won't be for awhile. Went last year when it
was wet out and had to drive home shoeless and take my car to get washed.
Some sections are really bad.
