I'm up against the wall trying to find when and where my ggrandmother died and is buried? Caroline Worrell married Harlow Stevenson on Aug. 10, 1865 in Fayette county IL and is listed in the 1870 census(Stephenson) Fayette-Loudon-IL.  The 1880 census shows my grandmother(Lenora) living with her uncle  Mark Worrell in Montgomery- Harvel-IL and her sister Mary Ellen living next door with the McLaughlin family. Any help would be appreciated!  Health and Happiness to all in 2009, Johnny L

The township contains these nine cemeteries: Bob Doan, Dial, Dunkard, Mount Moriah, Post Oak, Ranson, Rhodes Family, Rogers and Spring Hill.

John,

Did you notice the 11 year old orphan(t), Ella Stephenson, on the same page with Lenora in the 1880 census?  I believe that Harlow was previously married, in 1862.  The marriage index has him as Harlin W. Stephenson. This little gal could be the child of Harlow and his first wife and another avenue to their burial.

STEVENSON, HARLIN W                  LAND, ELIZA J                        1862-12-13 00A/0080          FAYETTE

When a grand aunt of mine was dying in the late 1800's, she was taken by wagon back to her parents home so she could die there and be buried in the family cemetery.  Looks like the Worrells came from Ohio and a had a little family group in Montgomery Co.  Fayette County is scant with their on-line cemetery records.  They need volunteers, as do all genealogy sites.

Hi Melody,
Thanks for looking into this.  I'm reseasonably sure that Ella is Lenora's sister and at one time I had a connection between the Worrell an McLaughlin families but I can't put my fingers on it now.  Harlow Stevenson is in the 1900 census living with daughter Nora(Lenora)Hendricks Christian-Greenwood-IL.  The Hendricks family next comes up in the 1910 census in Benson-Knox-ND, but no Harlow?  I wonder if he died there or somewhere inbetween? Thanks again, John

Hi John,
I went to the State of Illinois, marriage and death indexes, I didn't find either Harlow or Caroline in the death index. However, I found both in the marriage index, here's what I found:
Caroline Worrell m. 1) Joseph C. Cain on 6/21/1854 in Hancock
2) Charles Karricker 12/14/1856 Johnson Co. 3) Harlow W. Stevenson 8/10/1865 in Fayette Co. The above was in the bride section.
Under the grooms:
Harlin Stevenson m. 1)Eliza J. Land 12/13/1862 in Fayette Co.
Harlow Stevenson m. Caroline Worrell 8/10/1865 in Fayette Co.,
the above was under groom.

Have you tried www.findagrave.com I put in Caroline Stevenson got 9 hits.

Nancy W. in Michigan

I ran quite a few names thru findagrave.com including Caroline & Harlow Stevenson and came-up zero, so the search goes on.  Thanks

Here's a long shot. Deaths of Stevensons and Worrells in Montgomery and Fayette Cos.  If you can connect to them, maybe you can zero in on a cemetery, at least.  I thought William MARLOW Stevenson interesting.

Depending on finances, however, grave markers could have been field stones or made of wood, long since rotted away.  I often think of the old TV shows like "Death Valley Days" where folks traveling West were buried under a pile of stones, or only had a wooden cross somewhere along the trail.  Sometimes places of burial just can't be found.

That is interesting.  Due to the differences in penmanship and understanding I can see where that WM MARLOW STEVENSON could be Harlow W. Stevenson,  I'll work on it.  My PC is giving me fits, the Adobe reader isn't working and I can't download any PDFs. It might require a trip to the shop.  Thanks Melody
