Obituary from the Richards' Collection at the Robinson Carnegie Library. DR. WALTER McTAGGART was born November 30, 1861 in Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois. He was the son of Archibald and Emily Barlow McTaggart. Archibald McTaggart was born in Scotland in 1830, He migrated with his parents to Canada in 1834, then to Ohio, and finally to Robinson in the late 1850's. He was married January 26, 1860, to Emily Barlow and they were the parents of: Walter, Charley, Ida, Frank, Will and Bert. Archibald died January 25, 1915 at the age of 85 at his home in Duncanville, Crawford County, Illinois. Dr. McTaggart attended pubic school in Robinson and began to read Medicine with Dr, Stephen Meserve and his son, Dr, A, G. Meserve. In October of 1883 he entered Keokuk College of Medicine, Keokuk, Iowa receiving his diploma in 1884. He began his practice in Jasper County, Illinois and practiced at several different locations in the County. In 1887 he was practicing in Wheeler from 1889 to 1896 he was in Bagota. In 1897 he began a practice in Hunt City, Jasper County, Illinois and remained there until 1911 when he moved to Harrisburg, Illinois and there continued his practice. In 1887, Dr, McTaggart was married to Ida Mathews. He later married Artella Watt of Hunt City, Jasper County, Illinois. (According to an Obituary in the Richards Collection at the Robinson Carnegue Library, book 10 Page 2.) The doctor died March 11, 1920 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.C. Edmonson in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was survived by his wife, Artella and two daughters: Mrs. Edmondson of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Mable Reece of Harrisburg, Illinois; two brothers Bert of Mt. Vernon and William of Bone Gap, Illinois, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Funk of Duncanville, Crawford County, Illinois. The boy ran down the alley with his clothing aflame until Bernard Powers, 57, of 8510 Seeley av., and alley inspector, seized him, wrapped him in clothing torn from clotheslines, and rolled him on the ground. John and Powers, whose hands were burned, were taken to Little Company of Mary hospital. Note: John Allen Sutter is the son of Thomas J. and Marie M. Sutter.
