Hi Folks;

In the "a word to the wise category" in doing some on-line research on the Foss name, I recently ran across a very corrupt census image on Genealogy.com. Since I had such a hard time making out the entries I used the metadata to try and look up the same image on Ancestry.com--it wasn't there. Apparently, the folks at Ancestry decided it was too hard to read (it was horrible) and just skipped the page altogether. Lesson learned: if you don't find it in one index or site dont' give up, you may find it on another.

Cheers, Masugu

Hello I'm new to this board and am still trying to learn and move around here;  HOWEVER,  I maybe of some help on your Contrary Indexes.  I have some pretty good  picture editing software (thats part of what I do for a living)  if you come across a written page (picture of a page).  If some one will contact me and send me the jpg or other picture format I maybe able to sharpen it up a bit and read it.  I have had to do that to some of the Ill pages that I downloaded.

I would be more than happy to try and help.

Happy Hunting

Mesuga,

Please tell me what is metadata?  I have never heard that term before. Is it a search engine and where do you get it?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Andrea

Hi Andrea;

Metadata refers to the reference data surrounding the facts that you're
really interested in. In the case of census data that might be page #,
county, roll #, film #, name of enumerator, date enumerated, family
number, etc. etc. . Hope that clears it up. Cheers, Masugu
