The military channel had a facinating piece on the world's top ten fighter planes of all time & the Brits faired quite well placing three in this group.  The spitfire, harrier & sopwith camel were so honored after using a complicated formula to ascertain their worth.  The Brit fingerprint was also on the number 4 ranked Mig 15 which had a Brit designed engine, & the number 1 ranked P-51D Mustang which had a merlin powerplant.

Ref # 34. I should imagine it's the same with the Gurkhas, they speak to each other in Nepali, but have to use English when on operations etc.

THE TROUBLE IS FLASH WE SEEM TO BE DEALING WITH AN GROUP OF INCOMPETENT GOVERNMENT WORKERS WHO CAN'T BE BOTHERED LOOKING UP ANY PAPERWORK UNLESS YOU PAY THEM 80 BUCKS FIRST. IT'S STILL 80 BUCKS IF THEY COME UP DRY.
THE PAPER WORK WAS ALL DONE THROUGH THE BASE ORDERLY ROOM AND I KNOW THAT MY WIFES PASSPORT WAS SENT TO BONN TO HAVE THE DAUGHTER ENTERED ON IT. WE ALSO HAVE A GERMAN BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND ONE ISSUED BY DND.
THE PASSPORT HAS A STAMP WITH A CBA NUMBER STAMPED ON IT.
(CBA) CANADIAN BORN ABROAD. TO ME THAT NUMBER HAD TO BE REGISTERED. THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY PROBLEM AS MY WIFE AND I WERE BOTH BORN IN CANADA. MY DAUGHTER MAY NOW HAVE TO APPLY AGAIN FOR CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP.
TO EVEN TALK TO SOMEONE NOW IN OTTAWA THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND IS A PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THE GOVERNMENT WENT TO NO ENDS TO HIRE NEW IMMIGRANTS FROM CHINA AND INDIA. EVERY TIME YOU PHONE YOU GET A DIFFERENT PERSON WHO GIVES YOU DIFFERENT INFORMATION.
MY SISTER WENT THROUGH HELL TRYING TO GET A PASSPORT A FEW YEARS BACK. SHE WAS BORN IN ENGLAND DURING THE WAR AND CAME OVER BY SHIP WITH MY MOTHER IN 44. SHE WAS ON MY MOTHERS PASSPORT WHICH WAS BRITISH. THEY STAMPED THE PASSPORT TWICE ON DEPARTURE (ONE STAMP FOR EACH)BUT ONLY STAMPED IT ONCE ON ENTRY.
THE CHINESE GIRL AT IMMIGRATION CANADA TRIED SAYING THAT SHE LEFT ENGLAND BUT NEVER ENTERED CANADA. MY AUNT, A SCOT SAID TO HER WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY DID, LEAVE A 9 MONTH OLD BABY ON THE SHIP? THE CONVERSATION WENT DOWN HILL FROM THERE. MY FATHER SAID TO HER THAT WE LET THOUSANDS OF DP'S IN AT THE END OF THE WAR FROM ITALY WITH NO PAPER WORK AT ALL AND NOW SHE HAS PAPER WORK AND YOU ARE QUESTIONING IT. IT EVEN GOT DOWN TO WAS MY MOTHER AND FATHER  MARRIED BEFORE MY SISTER WAS BORN. MY FATHER TOLD THEM TO CHECK OLD ARMY PAY RECORDS AS MOTHER AND CHILD WOULD BE IN HIS PAY BOOK.
SHE ASKED DID HE STILL HAVE HIS PAY BOOK.?? (THIS IS NOW 50YRS AFTER THE WAR) BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DND RECORDS AS THAT WAS A DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT.
IT TOOK HER 8 MONTHS TO GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT.
HERE RIGHT NOW IT TAKES UP TO 8 MONTHS TO GET YOUR CITIZEN PAPERS, ALSO 4 TO GET YOUR PASSPORT. OF COURSE THIS IS ALL AMERICA'S FAULT.

FRENCH CANADIANS ARE AUTOMATICALLY GIVEN A ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSE ON JOINING. IF YOUR ENGLISH SPEAKING THEN YOU HAVE TO BEG TO GET A FRENCH COURSE. THERE IS NO PROMOTION NOW PAST WO IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FRENCH COURSE. IF YOU ARE BILIGUAL YOU GET AN EXTRA POINT ON YOUR ANNUAL ASESSMENT. YOU ALSO GET AN EXTRA POINT IF YOU ARE FEMALE. THAT MEANS IF YOU ARE A FRENCH SPEAKING FEMALE EVEN IF YOU HAD A POOR ASSESSMENT YOU CAN STILL GET PROMOTED OVER THE ENGLISH SPEAKING GUY.
IF YOU ARE FRENCH AND LEARN ENGLISH THEN YOU ARE CALLED BILIGUAL. IF YOU ARE ENGLISH AND LEARN FRENCH THEN YOU ARE JUST A PERSON WHO HAS LEARNED FRENCH.

OK PBA looks like I'm getting it now. Note the "did you mean" bit shows exactly what I inputted.

Reverting to your daughter. Have you tried (amazing how many people don't) writing a statement such as :

My daughter was born...in Lahr    .........................

She has been entered on her mother's passport   19.....

Mother's name

I was at the time (Name Rk Number Unit)

The Problem is that her birth certificate was............

Anyway, just go through it like that and NUMBER THE PARAGRAPHS.

If you like, I can send you my e-mail and we'll see if we can get a good format together without boring everyone on site.

Offer's open

Peter

THE REAL PROBLEM FLASH IS THAT THE RIGHT HAND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE LEFT HAND IS DOING.
WHEN I MENTION DND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE LETTERS STAND FOR AND THESE ARE GOVERNMENT WORKERS.
THE ARE PUSHING FOR HER TO APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP BECAUSE IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR THEM, PLUS THEY GET 80 BUCKS. THEY GET ANOTHER 80 WHEN YOU APPLY FOR YOUR PASSPORT.
SHE HAS A CARD THAT WAS ISSUED FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA REGISTERY OFFICE REGISTERING HER BIRTH/DATE/PLACE
SHE HAS BEEN USEING THAT AS HER BIRTH CERTIFICATE.
SHE IS ALSO ON HER MOMS PASSPORT WHICH WAS AMMENDED IN BONN AND HER NAME DATE OF BIRTH AND (CBA)CANADIAN BORN OUTSIDE CANADA NUMBER IS ON IT. SHE WAS BORN TO CANADIAN PARENTS IN A CANADIAN HOSPITAL IN A CANADIAN BASE.
THE GUY TODAY ON THE PHONE SAID WHEN ASKED WOULD THE PASSPORT OFFICE EXCEPT HER PAPER WORK AND HE SAID MAYBE MAYBE NOT. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHO'S STANDING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTER. THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
IT'S A FOUR AND A HALF HOUR DRIVE DOWN TO EDMONTON FOR HER AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT SHE WILL GET IT. IF THE LINE UP GETS LONG THEY GIVE YOU A NUMBER AND TELL YOU TO COME BACK THE NEXT DAY. NOT THE GREATEST OF TRIPS TO MAKE ON SNOW COVERED ROADS.

PBA,

Regarding your bilingual situation.  I remember once reading a book about the Esposito brothers.  I can't remember if this episode concerned Phil or Tony, but one of them wrote of when he played junior hockey.  His coach was a French-Canadian with a not-so-good command of English, though most of the team was from around Toronto and only spoke English.  He wrote that the coach would yell at them from the bench "Don't Stop To Skake!  Don't Stop To Skate!"

The shortcomings of your basic pocket French-to-English dictionary...

Well PBA looks as if you're in a muddle I feel if you/we do a biography and get all the facts nailed down in chronological order, then continue  to the procedural problems you've experienced, you got one set of facts against the other.
For your own security, this site ain't the best forum, but maybe if you want to write to me on e-mail, Sunday can help.

Bump.   I just watched the program again on the military channel  & have found an interesting "kill ratio" for two of the top 10 fighters in actual combat.

Harrier - 23 kills, no losses  (Falklands)
F-15    - 128 kills, no losses  (Iraq & other middle eastern)

Both impressive numbers which the commentators describe as due to the superb training by the RAF & USAF pilots going against the "B" team.

Sorry T-Dog
1 Sea Harrier damaged 30th April ground fire
2 Failed to return ?Collision? 4th May
1 destroyed ground fire 21st May (8 Argentinian aircraft destroyed)
1 destroyed ground fire 23rd May
1 shot down 27th May
We shot down 20 of theirs.
I replied to the revolting Owl on this theme, and made the point our Harriers were a joke, with inferior radar to WW2, thanks to the Labour Party. We were supplied with radar and sidewinders by the US, for which I again give thanks.
The Argentinians had Skyhawks and Pucaras. Their pilots had a lot of experiance in air to ground fighting, against the Tupamaros.
Another point, thanks to Labour, the only AA guns we had were the GPMG 7.62. The Argentinians had the .5 BMG and twin 20mm Cannon. Note 50% losses were ground fire.
