Poor Mrs Hawkins had such a fright!
Her husband had died earlier that night.
She'd walked into her husband's study,
Screamed and left in rather a hurry.

There was no sign of a forced entry,
Or anything else by the local gentry.
No fingerprints to show where they'd been,
Although the room wasn't exacly clean.

The only clue to the whole gruesome scene
Was that the clock on the wall had stopped at 8:17.
Why had the clock stopped ticking away?
And who wanted Mr Hawkins to die that day?

Was it the maid, who was last seen at three,
Carrying a tray of biscuits and tea?
Or was it the cook, making her plum duff,
Who simply said, "Enough is enough"?

Was it the kitchen boy with his shiny shilling,
Who decided that Mr Hawkins needed a grilling?
Or was it his wife, so loving and caring,
Who really wasn't the kind for sharing?

Can you guess who it was?

NOTE:

The person who finds the killer
Must use this thread to start
A new mystery or thriller.

As the death came, as a shocking surprise
Mrs Hawkins, may well be innocent, we surmise
Once she had recovered from the initial shock
She may wonder, who forgot to wind up the clock

Also as the room was not very clean
Can you see the way, I am beginning to lean
The maid may well have been preoccupied
A possible reason why Mr Hawkins died

It may not be just the cook, who was up the duff
Mr Hawkins may have been getting more than enough
Plum's though, it has to be said
Have been known to turn a mans head

So let us rule out the boy with his shilling
For I doubt if he, would have been willing
In fact, I should think he hardly went upstairs
Or held dear, any murderous cares

Yet, that then brings me back to his wife
Was revenge the reason she ended his life
Did she pretend to run away screaming
While all the while plotting and scheming

No, I think the fact the maid has not been seen
And seems to have disappeared from the scene
Look to the mess, and the clock unwound
And I'm sure the murderer will soon be found.

I can't think of a poetic response,
So this will have to do.
I'm afraid that I'm going to
be naughty
And leave you all to chew
It over for a little while.
But when the time comes,
I'll unmask the killer with style.

In thought of the staff
who preoccupied,
were otherwise busy
when the master died...
at 8.17, he was all alone
perhaps he had dined
and swallowed missed stone.
Once dinned was served
at 8 on the dot.....
he may have gobbled
Plum Duff ~ whilest too hot!!!
The clock was sat near him
on desk by his side,
and though tried to call "Help"
he throw out arms and he died.

Meany, lol, but so am I....and I've had another thought, Poetess...

Mr Hawkines had dined
and then he had wined,
from out of nowhere
he just slumped in his chair.
Mrs hawkins had said
it's time that we changed
the nail for the clock
which needs rearranged.
Alas it would seem
he had left it too late
and the clock struck his head
17 minutes past 8!!!

 THE CLOCK DID IT!!!

Well, I guess the time has come for this;

REVELATIONS.

Now the time has come to reveal
The person who committed this evil crime.
Hanging was abolished a long time ago
So, in jail, they must do time.

First of all, let me tell you the story
Of how a banker called Mr Hawkins
Met an ending that wasn't so gory.
It went like this:

Mr Hawkins returned home from work,
Took off his coat and hung it up.
The maid had made a pot of tea -
- but cyanide was added to his cup!

It wasn't the maid who bumped him off.
She'd just made his tea, strong and hot.
She didn't know that somebody else
Would soon be taking his lot.

It wasn't his wife, so loving and giving
Who decided that his life was not for living.
She loved him and cared for his needs,
So who committed this evil deed?

Now listen closely dear friends,
Before I bring this mystery to an end,
I'd like to say that it's been a thriller.
I've enjoyed making everyone sweat,
But now it's time to reveal the killer.

It was the cook, who poisoned his tea,
After falling in love so passionately.
Her heart broken, love unrequited,
As he'd said to her the following words,
"My wife and I will always be united."

So while Cook was making her plum duff,
She said, quite simply, "Enough is enough."
Cook concocted her evil plan
While she baked a delicious cheese flan.

She waited for the maid to fetch the milk
Before producing from her apron of silk,
A tub of cyanide crystals for all to see
And put some in her master's tea.

So the answer is...
...

 THE COOK DID IT!
