I hope you do not mind me posting this Merlin, your wonderful poem brought this back to me :)
The Métro
The heat from the métro affects me every time and once again I’m lost in stained jeans, leaning back on smoked tile walls sharing a cigarette between the four of us. Stéphanne who marched and got his face on the front of the Paris Match, Aurelion a reluctant Aristo trying hard to conceal his bourgeois roots. Then there was Madeleine, so beautiful that no one would believe she died at only 33 years of age; I saw here a week before, face as pale as her lungs were black. I am only here for business sanitised in haute couture, I buy a ‘croque monsieur?BR>from a guy that could, if I closed my eyes be you.

A haunting poem, I sensed a wish for olden days, as opposed to 'sanitised' new ones Jen |

Certainly not, Emma. I'm pleased if it brought this to mind. A powerfull mental image. Places and smells can bring back such strong recollections. There's a gentle sadness in this... (I've been having a few problems posting also...) Merlin |

Thanks Merlin, I'm so pleased you understand - This poem has always meant a lot to me and your poem just brought all the feelings back into how I feel of this poem - for me places and smells are so evocative of things
Msn is driving me totally doodah at the moment - I try and reply and a box comes up but stays white and I can't do anything. Its been better today but still taking me a while aaarghhhhhhh lol

I think I made too many mistakes in my student days,Emma, for me to call it a happy time of my life. On the other hand, what I learned from my mistakes laid the foundation for much more happy times later, and a very happy time of life for me now. Looking back at my time in Paris, there were some great highlights, which could only come about in a city so magical and vibrant as Paris. I certainly availed myself of the Paris theatre and music scene, and made some good cosmopolitan friendships. A parisienne took a liking to me,and it was fun getting to see the city through her eyes. |
