King James VI of Scotland, who inherited the English throne from Elizabeth I & became James I of England, must have wondered whether he would meet a violent death like ALL his predecessors named James:

James I - Murdered in the royal lodgings at Blackfriars, Perth in 1437 by Sir Robert Graham as a result of a conspiracy led by the Earl of Atholl. Those Scots do love a good regicide.

James II - Killed by an exploding cannon while he was supervising the siege of Roxburgh Castle in 1460. Ouch, that's gotta hurt.

James III - Murdered in 1488 after the Battle of Sauchieburn in which the king was opposed by a force led by his 15-year-old son, James IV. It had been prophesied that he would be betrayed by his nearest kin and King James III had imprisoned his brothers as a result. Guess he overlooked his own devil's spawn.

James IV - Killed at the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513 as he advanced into England in support of the French and the "Auld Alliance". And was married to Margaret Tudor.....sheesh, poor bastard!

James V- Died of his wounds and grief after his defeat at the Battle of Solway Moss in 1542. Turned his face to the wall & cried himself to death, the big baby. James V's daughter Mary Queen of Scots was executed in 1587 but her son, James VI, eventually died of natural causes in 1625, thus ending the centuries-old James Name Curse.

Egads! You've gone and called me James!
This is the very worst of names!
You hate me Mom! You want me dead!
I hope someone chops off your head!

Well I'll surprise you! I will live
In spite of crummy names you give!
I won't end up like all the rest
Because you flunked the Mommy test!

When you are dead, I will survive
And rest assured I'm gonna thrive!
I'll be th king! It ain't a dream,
And PROTESTANTS will be supreme!

I won't end up like James the first
Cuz Graham thought he was the worst,
and I won't be like number two
Who bit it when the cannon blew!

I feel so bad for Jimmy Three
Who got killed by his family tree!
I swear I won't end up like him
MY son will be called Chuck, not Jim!

And I'm not gonna go to war
And end up dead like number four!
He married Margaret, I'll take Anne
And just for luck, I'll try a man!

My Grandpa James was number five
A coward when he was alive!
He lost a battle, then he cried
And hit his head and then he died.

In spite of such a dreadful name,
I am not gonna die in shame!
I'll keep my head and you will not
Because you can't resist a plot!
