I'm just curious as to why a large membership is such a problem that people will be culled for not posting.  I know that I don't post a lot but I do read the posts.  I had to re-sgin up a while ago when for some reason my original username stopped working.  Is it a physical problem with the server having so many names that things slow down on the board or is it something else?  I'm just curious and not understaning why this monthly sign-in thing is necessary.  Thanks in advance for answering.

Regarding Monthly Sign-In:

As stated earlier, we decided to implement Monthly Sign-In process to help streamline our board's membership.  From an administrative standpoint, it is difficult for me and my colleagues to navigate the 800+ person member list (especially when the list is only sorted alphabetically, not chronologically!) and figure out who has been active on the board and who has not.

We would like to have a good sense of who our active members are so we as managers can better customize the content that you find here on this site.  Each of the managers has a specific area of responsibility on this board, and we want to make sure that we're providing good and relevant information about ATWT to our members.

When only a small fraction of a larger membership group is active, we're only hearing from a small portion of the group.  That's where the Monthly Sign-In comes in handy. By simply answering a question about ATWT each month (and that's all the Monthly Sign-In process is... you answer the question and say "signing in"), you give us immediate information about your feelings about the show.

I'll give you an example.  Let's say that we're thinking of featuring a Character of the Week (we're not, but this is just an example) and we're not sure which character our members like the best.  We might pose a question on the Monthly Sign-In Board that reads, "Who is your favorite current character on the show right now?"

This is where your feedback is invaluable. Once we get a majority opinion, we could then take that information and then put it to good use.

And that's just one example of the benefits of using the Monthly Sign-In process.

However, to answer your question, the main reason we are implementing the Monthly Sign-In is to help streamline some of our administrative operations. Simply put, it's just easier for us to manage a smaller group of active members than a larger group of inactive ones.  Remember, we're all volunteers here, and we're trying to do the best that we can with the limited time and resources that we have available.

Again, thanks to you all for your continued support.

Taryn
Board Co-Manager
