Art and Culture Art is one of the noblest forms of human culture. The artistic gift is one of the rarest endowments. While many have the power of artistic appreciation only a minority have the artistic touch and skill. The culture of a nation is infallibly revealed in the quality of its art and in the nature of its artistic life. The editor of The Hibbert Journal, Principal L.P. Jacks, had a great passage on "The Significance of art" He said: "Art is the name for the most complete and most intense form of expression of the inner life of man. Its exercise compels a combination of the highest human faculties of conscience, intellect, imagination, feeling, and skill becomes successful in proportion to those faculties, are, on one hand, strong and versatile, and on the other, charged with the personal life and force of their possessor. When these are present in the highest degree the result of the artist's efforts is the creation of great, lovely and immortal works. The successful pursuit of the Fine Arts demands, as its first condition, the concentration of faculties upon the matter in hand and the yielding up of the entire man to the artistic; and the more complete the self-surrender of the Artist, the nobler the result. In all great artistic work, therefore, we have a more perfect self-revelation of the worker's soul than in any other type of human expression" ~ John G. Bowran Cyber goddess © Sharon George 2004 CyberGoddess was the Grand Prize winner of the 1998 California Computer Expo. She was my first totally digital art image. She has shown in numerous shows and galleries, has been published in books, including the CorelDraw 8 Wow Book, and sold many prints. CyberGoddess was my first real foray into the realm of digital painting. When it all came together one afternoon, I realized I'd discovered my true medium, my niche. Ups and downs since that wondrous afternoon I received my award notice; but I remain committed to my craft.
