Spirits of the Sacred Grove: The World of a Druid PriestessBy Emma Restall Orr. For many, the word Druidry conjures up images of white-robed figures involved in esoteric rituals. But modern Druidry is not wrapped in a veil of secrecy - it is celebrated Openly, in the sunlight of the medow or the shady leafiness of a forest glade. Druids are passionate about the environment, and their worship is above all focused on Nature through the celebration of the changing seasons of the year. ~ (recommended by) BluMoonie Recommended by »®ed«·»Ph¤enïX«, 4/7/2003.

Gods and Myths of Northern EuropeBy H R Ellis Davidson. Generally considered a "classic" work in the Heathen community because the author did so much to bring together the lore and history of Germanicbeliefs. It is a scholarly and informative work but still remains accesible even to those who are unfamiliar with the mythology it covers. The Vikings: Lords of the SeasBy Yves Cohat. This is an excellent book but would be especially good for those who are looking at Viking history for the first time. It is beautifully illustrated and gives a good general overview of Viking history and culture. I recommend it to newbies of both the Heathen and the re-enactment variety! I ISBN is 0-500-30015-1 Recommended by Karen Recommended by »®ed«·»Ph¤enïX«, 4/8/2003.

Wights and AncestorsBy Jenny Blain. There are very few "how to" Heathen publications out there and those that there are tend to deal with blots and group activity. This, however, deals directly with the subject of creating and maintaining relationships with Wights (nature spirits/dryads/elves, etc) and ancestors. Includes information on Seidr and general Heathen concepts. Jenny takes a down-to-earth approach and doesn't baffle the reader with jargon or pretentious waffle! I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ENOUGH. GET IT IF YOU CAN. Recommended by Karen Recommended by »®ed«·»Ph¤enïX«, 4/8/2003.

The Book of Irish LegendsBy Iain Zaczek. This is a fun little book of various Irish stories. What I like best about this book is the appendix of principle characters and places. While the stories are well done, I have to admit that I am not as fond of the illustration style, but that is just me. The Code of the WarriorBy Rick Fields.. While not specifically Celtic, I highly recommend this book! The back of the jacket cover is the best description of this book: "Though these traditions are as varied as the cultures they come from - the samurai of Japan, the Plains Indians of North America, and the knights of medieval Europe - they share much with each other and with the problems we face daily in our lives. Through their teachings about the nature of aggression, competition, and physical and mental struggle, the warrior traditions provide a practical guide to living in a difficult and challenging world. Each embraces a spiritual code to serve as a path of personal development, combining bravery and gentleness, exhibiting a fierce compassion for others, and emphasizin self-master, will and patience as well as courage and integrity. In the "Code of the Warrior", noted author Rick Fields illustrates the enduring power and significance of the funcion of the warrior in society. He shows that whether a culture reveres of reviles battle, the warrior is always an essential part of society. Finally, Fields explores ways in which our world calls for a new warrior spirit and how this spirit can be forged for each of us from the ways of the past." Who Were The CeltsBy Kevin Duffy. This book is great for those out there who don't know anything about the Celts and are just starting out finding info because it gives a little bit of info about a variety of topics. However, for those of you who already know a bit about them, then this book is probably not for you. Especially since it concentrates a large amount of time to info concerning the Romans and how they affected the Celts. If you are looking for info. on anything other than Roman influence, then this book doesn't offer anything but tidbits to whet the appetite, so keep looking! The Temple and the LodgeBy Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh. This book gives historical information about the people and places that affected or were involved in/with the Templars and the Freemasons as well as possible theories about how membership in these orders may have affected the outcomes of certain historical events. It stayed with historical fact, or theories that had basis in historical fact and did not delve into very many opinions or questions concerning the occult backgrounds of these two groups.
