Light is important to all living things and as Newtonian physics tells us that light and colour are one and the same thing and cannot be separated, it follows by implication that when we take in light through the eyes or the skin we are also receiving the colours we need for our physical, mental and spiritual well being. ~ The Electro-Magnetic Field ~ The sun emits a mixture of electromagnetic energy and radiation. These rays of energy take the form of waves of many different frequencies and visible light occupies only a small portion of the total range. The visible frequencies have wavelengths measured in nanometres (a nanometre is one millionth of a millimetre) and lie approximately in the range between 700nm (red) and 400nm (violet). ~ The Human Equation ~ Our body absorbs colour energy through the vibration colour gives off. All organs, body systems, and functions are connected to main energy centres. Every person has seven energy centres and each centre is governed by one of the seven colour energies. Through colour we receive all the energies we need to maintain a health body, mind, and soul. The National Institute of Mental Health has done studies showing that our mental health, behaviour, and general efficiency in life depends to a great extent on normal colour balance. When something goes wrong, or is out of balance, we can strengthen our energy centres through the conscious use of colour. Colour Energy exists everywhere and can be acquired through the food we eat (as well as vitamins and herbs), the clothes we wear, our surroundings, aromatherapy, sound, gemstones, and Colour Energy products. In modern color therapy, colored light is shined into the eyes to stimulate or relax the eye nerves which in turn relax the body. Different colors have different effects. Blue/violet are known to reduce headaches; red increases blood pressure; yellow, green and blue relieves digestive ills and yellow is beneficial to certain mental disorders. Interestingly, these correspond with ancient feng shui color associations: violet or purple is associated with the head; red is associated with the heart; and yellow, green and blue are associated with the digestive organs Because color can affect the mind through its symbolic meaning, it can be utilized to empower the mind. The colors in our wardrobe, room or artwork are often used to enhance people's well-being or to assist in positive visualization of a goal. ~ Metaphysical Concepts ~ The Aura - There is a light based communication system within the physical body which Kirlian photography has shown as an emanation of light surrounding every living thing. This is known as the auric field which contains different layers of electromagnetic energy with each level vibrating to frequencies of colour which change according to the state of our health. Experiments are showing this to be the endogenous electromagnetic field of the body which can be influenced by the application of coloured light. Chakras - associated with ancient healing practices and described as whirling vortices of energy (wheels) they are linked metaphysically to the body. There are seven major chakras along the spine, each one vibrating to colour frequencies with a dominant colour for each. Vibrational medicine recognises the individual link each chakra has to small nerve bundles known as ganglia these are influenced by our emotional and spiritual issues which if not dealt with can restrict the energy flow of the chakras affecting the functioning of the whole body.
