... that inanimate objects can develope a manitou or spirit? A house? a car? a room? a rock? "they say a house is not haunted, simply that it has gone insane" |

Hmm, that is a good question! I do believe inanimate objects can possess energy (good or bad) but develop a spirit? Pondering on this. Aboriginal beliefs refer to the tree people or the stone people and them as possessing their own spirits. All "inanimate objects" we find in our lives are in one way or another derived from wood or stone so....? Hmmmm.... Leila | | |

I was brought up within my mothers belief that all things contained manitou, some stronger then others but still there ... in fact, for as long as I can remember my mother has named her car(s) and given them almost human characteristics. I guess it rubbed off early, lol... I find I do the same thing now and again. However ... although I believe everything in existances has an energy signature, or that those objects that have been in constant contact with sentient Spirit could possibly develope any real spirit of its own ... almost like a kind of transference. Unfortunately the weak point in that notion is that I've never yet encountered a pair of haunted shoes or had an falling out with my toothbrush, soooo .... I'm not sure, perhaps instead of a transference it could be a matter of imprinting? Red |

I think that all objects are capable of picking up energy. I do not believe that all objects are capable of developing a Spirit or soul. Stones, plants, rivers etc. are from nature and so are a part of the whole Earth energy. Certain natural objects do contain devas which most definitely have individual Spirits. As for rooms and other places it gets more ambigious. A cemetery, for example, is obviously full of spiritual energy left by those grieving at funerals and in some cases left by the spirits of the dead who did not pass right away or at all. Rooms where horrible things have happened retain that "feeling". The same goes for rooms where wonderful things happened. A church, for example, can be an uncomfortable place for some Pagans but if we look deeper we can feel the joy of all the happy energy left there--weddings, baptisms, countless songs sung. The same could be said for a ritual room or an altar--energy can be felt on al of the items. In most cases I believe energy is imprinted. I've never been ablle to draw a charge through a tv or a car. A crystal, symbol, or tree I can. |
