Pendulums Pendulums are made from a variety of materials including crystals, wood, glass, and metals. They are often used as tools for spiritual healing and inner growth. Pendulums are a very simple method of divination, generally used for simple "yes or no" questions. A pendulum is some kind of weight suspended from a string or chain. The end of the chain is held lightly in the fingers, and the question is asked. The pendulum should, within a minute or so, begin to swing in a particular direction, thus giving you the answer to your question. Before using a pendulum, determine which direction means "yes", which means "no", and which means "uncertain or don't know". Most often, a north-south direction means yes, an east-west direction means no, and a circular motion means uncertain. The best way to determine this for yourself, though, is to make these the first questions you ask your pendulum: "Which direction means yes?" And so on. You can buy pendulums made for purposes of divination in occult and new age book stores. If you're on a tight budget, you can make your own with a piece of string or chain, and whatever you want to attach to the bottom of it. It should not be very long (six inches or so), and the weight should be heavy enough to pull the string taut as you hold it gently by the end. It shouldn't be so heavy that it will give you a pain in the arm or hand, either! You can use it alone, or you can make a nice cloth (or even just a paper) circle, with straight lines running North-South and East-West to hold the pendulum above. Pendulums work by allowing your intuitive/subconscious mind to give you the answer to your questions, which in turn moves the pendulum in the direction in which it needs to go.

I don't know if anyone's heard of this before, but in our family we use a pendulum to divine what sex our chilren will be. This is done with a threaded needle tied to the end of a pencil.I'm sure there are other types. You hold the pencil very steadily so the needle is hanging just above the side of your wrist. your forearm should be resting on a table and your hand turned sideways so the thumb side of your wrist is facing upwards. The needle will move in a circle for girl and back and forth for boy. This can predict the children you will have in the future or the child you are pregnant with, in which case you can hold it over you stomach. There will be a disticnt stop in between children. If it seems confusded this could be twins or a child you lost. In our family it predicts twins, which I got. This has never failed us. My mother can even do it and it shows the children she had. It's fun for baby showers.

I went to a friends baby shower and this was done. Not only amazingly accurate, but also fun. |

Pendulums can be both fun and useful tools. I, however used to be skeptical of the validity of them for the most part, because of the minute involuntary twitches the hand may do to affect the outcome of the pendulum. So, I devised a new pendulum for myself... I took 7 strand braided ground copper wire and bent it into a U shape (flat bottomed) 4.5 inches as the 'handles with a 9 inch center length between the black felt wrapped handles ( like this: l____l ). This would remove the 'twitches' and allow for the pendulum to be secured or propped against a flat surface... the actual pendulum is a copper held citrine quartz, suspended from a silver chain, which in turn hangs fron a loose spiral (wrapped around the center shaft) for movement. I'm not sure if you can picture it from my description (I'll take a picture if I ever get around to it, lol). However, not only is it a beautiful piece to look at, but it is amazingly responsive!... perhaps it is the materials used in the construction or lack of interference on my part... but having seen this pendulum in action, my skeptism was washed away. My next pendulum project will be a free-standing tri-pod style ... probably with the same kind of conductive materials as well. Red |

Namaste All... In my opinion, divination is just a way to access the intuition and to find the answers that we already carry within. So, when I think about it like that, I am drawn to imagine that the twitches one's hand makes are a part of the process due to the fact that they are involuntary--they just "happen" and may be considered as part of the unconcious process. I have really sore joints, though and have a hard time holding my hand still for long, so sometimes I will hang my pendulum from a hook or a lamp or some available place in front of me until it is still, then I ask my question and direct my energy toward it. I usually just use whatever crystal I happen to be wearing that day. Usually I'm wearing a small aquamarine wrapped in silver on a short sterling chain and it works great. I've been meaning to buy a proper one for awhile...lol. Pendulum divination is one of my favorite methods . I find it to be extremely accurate. The only draw-back is that the pendulum can be very easily influenced by what you want the results to be, since it is basically moving at the push of your own energy. With practice, though, it is very powerful and effective. In Shadow and Light... |
