When it comes to using Staves ... mine are 9 inch oak wands, each has a single rune ritually carved (from top to bottom, left to right) at the centre balance point. 9 days in crafting 25 ... my staves are the only set (of the 3) to include Wyrd, this was a personal choice.
In reading them there are a few methods I use... the first and simpliest is to reach into the silk bag and pull one forth.
The second method is to close my eyes, hold them comfortably in my left hand straight arm over a cloth or the ground, draw an inward spiral staves upward (3 revolutions, mentally drawing the energy down along the spiral), open my hand and allow them to fall ... here I either with closed eyes I pick 3 runes at random and place them aside in the order and position I picked it up in... or I open my eyes and read the pattern of the overall runes cast before me, they are read as a group. This method is a bit more intensive
This example (a exact copy of my own last night) shows the complexity of a full stave reading ...
... the runes that are faded are either completely buried or not to be considered because they are on the bottom or unmarked.
... the blue runes are on the top of the pile interacting with the red runes... however the rune remains hidden and may be revealed in a later reading.
... of the red runes you need to study how they interact, for instance, which ones are on top, which ones pin another (and where along the stave). If one rune pins another at the closest end the impact will influence events early, if later then then it is an outside influe coming into play. Always read the runes from the closest, onward ... you need to be both focused and unfocused in order to 'see' the runes. The runes are read in order according to their distance... closest first, read only runes that are face up (do not disturb the pattern or turn any over)... wands that cross each other are opposing forces, those that touch are directly related and wands that are side by side support each other in harmony. One wand on top of another dominates it, if a group of runes are piled up on a visible rune, its power is hidden or suppressed. Once you have identified the obvious rune staves, Sit back and view the overall pattern and find the shadow runes, these are runes that are created out of the staves themselves and influence the overall reading.
There are more factors involved with this method, but thats the basics of it, its the kind of reading that gives a very indepth and detailed reading. If you have any questions regarding this method I'm more then happy to discuss it :o)
