Serena,
The book is written in a straight foward psychological stand point. There is no fluff or new age mysticism. It's logic, and historical based, giving a deeper understanding of the cards and their meanings. It teaches how to give a reading that is effective and straight foward so the person being read can understand the answer to their question, as well as where it will lead them, and how they can correct their current path if it's needed.
There is an indepth discription of each of the sections, the major and minor arcana and how they work together, and then goes deeper to describe each card and it's meaning. i.e. wands = fire and when one is placed during the reading it relates to perception, intuition and imagination. It directly relates to awareness of self and all it's potential (it goes much deeper about it but I just want to give an overview) an upright wand refers to the self you present to the world and a reversed wand (or upside down) refers to your self image and how you view yourself. For example if a queen of wands was shown it talks about what the queen means i.e. the position is fullfilling, and queens are typically shown as women with positions of power and represents competency. (although the feminine quality ends there - this card just shows a position of fullfilment now matter who is being read) It then shows several ways in how that particular card effects the spread your using - wether it's a neutral position, positive, upright or negative and how that effects the spread and the interactions with the other cards.
The book then takes you through designing and doing a layout, and how to read and understand the reading. I'm about half way through the book at the moment, and can allready read the cards at a much deeper level than I have ever done. I looked for a copy of my own on the net and found this one to be out of print, but that there was a revised version out, but out of stock on Amazon.com I hope to find my own copy for my library.
I hope that helps.
