~Making Weather Ropes~

This is a bit of knot magic mixed with weather working. During  the warm months its fun to make a wind or rain weather rope with children that they can undo  later in the season as needed. They rope chosen should be fairly sturdy and (perferably) natural  so you can hang it outside.
Have the children hold the rope in both hands while imagining the  weather desired.
If rain, have them add a drop of water to each knot made.
If wind, have them  tie a feather into the knot while theuy visualize the effects. Traditionally there are three knots.  The first to bring about a gentle change, the second to bring about a fuller gale or downpour,  and the third which is never undone because it brings about horrible storms that can bring  more harm then good.
Help the child mount the rope in a visible spot.

In light of the rather harmless seeming craft above... My question is this ~

If you are a family or individual with a 'magical tradition' when would begin the magical aspect of your childs training?

Greetings,

Personally, I would start them as soon as they seem to be able to grasp the general ideas.  It would be different for different kids.  Some seem able to grasp certain things earlier than others.  My oldest boy has a much better grasp on certain things than my younger son, but at the same time, my younger son is much more empathic than my oldest.  So, like I said, it depends on the child.  But I would definatelysay as early as possible.  That way they are comfortable with it.  And if a child is comfortable with something, then that child wil be much more open to it.

Just my scattered thoughts on the matter.

I dunno if you should start teaching a kid magic at anyage, or at least until they ask for themselves, and even then i would probably keep it to magic theory rather than letting a kid start monkeying with things they don't have the respect for...Also i am a pretty big believer in letting the kid choose for themselves thier religion...brainwashing of the youth in various forms of religions has been going on for way too long as it is...But mainly, i would jsut show them as they ask, making sure they understood what happens when someone misuses power of any type...same as i would with a gun safety etc etc etc...

Teaching a child all the wonderful 'magick' of nature and life at a very young age is a benefit no matter what religion you follow.  Teaching a child spell craft is another thing all together.  Simple spells much like child's prayers can be safely taught so as to give the child practice on how to propperly cast energy.  Always teach (no matter the age) a respect for life and will.  There is nothing wrong with giving a child knowledge the trouble comes from not giving them the groundwork to go with it and giving too much befor they can fully understand the effects or take responsibility for their actions.   Blessings

I rather agree with you devine.  The only problem i have only is in regard to teaching specific dogma and views that more or less to amounts to programming kids rather than teaching them the ability to learn and choose for themselves from the myriad religious views that are out there.  And giving those kids the support they need in their choice rather than viewing thier choice as a bad choice...  Oh red, btw, I kinda think that it is good to have a fix-it attitude, but there will always be some confusion as a kid tries things out to find themselves and how the relate in the world.  We try to protect our kids <of course not being a parent i am probably talking nonsense, suppositioning things that would never work even in an ideal situation, but at least i am giving it thought rather than waiting for the moment to happen and then not having a view on how to deal with the subject> from the mistakes of the past that may have stunted us, however through that protection we may being havign an adverse affect than what we originally intended...Anyhow, Impressing upon kids various moral codes and the reasons for following such codes should definitely be a part of the kids growing experience, however i think that the kid should always know that there are other views out there and to see what it is that works for the kid, rather than what works for you.. It is always egotistical to think that your world view is the only one people should follow..not that that has been said or implied, i am jsut rambling..anyhow...there was my 50 cents worth

Hiya Folks

Well... it never ceases to amaze me what will catch someones interest....,lol.  As far as teaching children within a magical tradition.. I see nothing wrong with it as long commonsense and safety are paramount. Making a child welcome within your faith is different from 'programming' as long as you are balancing the education with other equally valid lessons in the faiths of mankind (without prejudices) Please see my Pagan Children for further insights on my opinion...lol because I diffently have one...lol  Granted my definition of teaching magic may differ from a Wiccans or a family of Strega and no doubt Asatru as well as many others, simply because of my belief that magic intertwines with science and its intregal part of mankinds so spiritual essence... but THAT is another topic. I guess the long and short of it is that I agree with all of you in some part ...

Blessings ~

Some babies are born with much potential, and attract much other-worldly attention, as I did. In the recent past most such childrens natural abilities were quickly reigned in and were squashed before they could develope and awaken. I'm curious about the future if more and more such children are allowed to develope and awaken. But before you decide to guide such a child, you should realise that such children attract powerful and wise spiritual guides and that you could learn much more from your child and his or hers spiritual guides if you don't intefere or confuse or limit their gifts to your childs developement. But on the other side of the coin, negative entities also are attracted to such children as well and unless or until your child comes under the protection of powerful guides you may have to guide and protect your children from their attacks and influences. I was attacked and was terrorized by a poltergist until I attracted or develope protections from them. Its interresting how during different key developmental changes or stages we go through as we develope physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually we become temporarily more vulnerable to and under direct assault by more negative entities. Its also interesting how certain practices and states of mind are more conducive to recieving gifts and attention by wise and loving entities as well. Perhaps our guidance and teachings to our gifted youths if we become blessed with such should be limited to helping them develope the states of mind and practices which attract the love, protections and attention of positive forces and guides to their life.
