Mugwort ( artemisia vulgaris ) Mugwort is a relative of wormwood and was found in the Mediterranean as well as Asia minor. Though it has medicinal properties, it is best known for enhancing psychic abilities. Physical Description: Mugwort grows wild in North America. It grows 1 to 5 feet tall. The leaves are silvery white underneath and have 5 to 7 lobes. The leaves alternate up the stalk. The flowers are small, grow in clusters and range from yellow to purplish. Mugwort Medicinal Properties: Taken internally as a tea, mugwort was used for colds, colic, kidney inflammation, rheumatism, fever and to bring on suppressed menses. A teaspoon of the leaves were used per cup of boiling water. Externally it is used in poultices for wounds and for poison oak. Mugwort is the ingredient in "moxi-sticks" used for moxibustion, which is a heat treatment of the tsubo (acupuncture) points. Mystical Properties: . Mugwort tea was used before divinations, and the herb was used in sachets kept in a pillow to promote prophetic dreams and astral projection. Carrying mugwort was believed to prevent poisoning, sunstroke or harm from wild beasts. However carrying it was also believed to increase lust. Has anyone drank this herb? I have some and will be using it for trance work and other experiments of a divinatory nature. I've been reading up on it, but would like to hear from anyone with experience with mugwort. |

Deidre, Could you please tell me the effects you experienced and whether or not there was any side-effects? I have the dried variety, and will be using it this weekend, so I'm curious about your own experience... thanks |

Mugwort is a common one around here. It grows in humongous bushes (some reaching tree height) all over the place and is pretty much considered a "weed". It especially grows in wet areas like creek beds or beside ponds. The artemisia vulgaris is also known as California mugwort. I had some in my garden but it died . However a new green shoot has come up beside the dead one so that's good. The stuff is indestructible. I've never ingested it because of the hallucinogenic possibilities but I have burned it. It smells very nice and is relaxing. One the metaphysical side it cleanses space very well. I'll be interested to hear how it goes for you. |

You silly I did post about how the tea went. It was fine, but I am sure I made it weak cause I used fresh herb and not much of it. Try yours weak first too and give yourself some time to experience the effects; at least 30 minutes. It was a bit of a high, top of the head feeling. I have heard you can smoke it as well and the effects are more intense. I havent tried that yet. Similar side effects to a mild hangover but that could have been lack of sleep and water. good luck hon! Devine |

It can be braided but the braids would probably be pretty fat. I just cut it fresh and bind the bunches with thread and burn it when it has dried out...like with sage. It does have a heavy smoke though. My bedroom is extremely small so it might be just me but it was still filled up with a thick white cloud in about a minute. So, I would suggest ticking off your smoke alarms and providing ventilation. |

Good Morning, I'm feeling a little bit headache-y this morning, but whether its from the rain or from the tea is undecided, might be a bit of both because I do feel slightly hungover... not bad, just noticeably a bit 'off'. Meditation last night was rather vivid and inspiring ... for some reason some of my pathworking manifests in the language of poetry, lol. Lots of dream activity as well. Round 2 tonight. Thanks for your input, Ladies ... I appreciate it. |

Ooooooooo I am hanging mugwort to dry as we speak!!! I wanted to joing you last nite Red but my energy was off so I decided to be cautious. Told you you would get a mild hangover lol but again it is like a lack of sleep/ dehydration thing almost. I wonder if you drank a bunch of water befor heading off to bed if that would help. Record everything you remember and let us know how it goes, Devine |

I made a stronger tea, the second time around. Again rather vivid visualization and yet sharper focus, a mild physical disassociation at first accomplanied by a light buzz, then things settled into the pathworking. The pathworking itself took on a clearer and stronger depth that surprised me. However, I have to add that I have suffered a headache from the time I woke this morning (after another round of dreaming) and the pain is centered on my 6th chakra/ third eye ... the area is actually tender to touch. Because of this I will probably use the tea for certain objectives... pathworking and dream divination. R.Phx |

Hello all, I've been reading this with interest and decided to do some research on mugwort. Well it turns out the main ingredient that does for you what I believe it is you wish.... is thujone! Thujone is the main ingredient in the oil of mugwort. Well.., thujine is also that 'special' ingredient in Wormwood, which is the main part of, yes, you guessed it, my favorite, absinthe! So if you want the, perhaps, better filtered and tastier version, perhaps you should try that. I don't recall any headaches the next day, but the buzz is very similar to your descriptions. just a little more info to digest! |
