At 3:35 this afternoon, the bells began to toll. I was standing in front of St Eugenes church as these long hollow peals of sound started to fill the air. There was nothing melodious about the bells, more like a hammer to anvil. I stood and listened to them the whole time and knew I marked the passing of a holy man. The Pope was not my holy man, but he was an icon for millions that shared his spirituality ... his passing (although expected) left a huge mark of sadness on the world, a moment of spiritual loss for many ... for those of you touched in the passing of this holy man, I offer my sincerest condolences and pray your faith comforts you as it may. The Divine has left this man and he is now at peace. He has returned to the one who created him. May he be ever at his reward. I did not follow his path but I bow my head in respect for one that had such burden on him. I pray he did not suffer much and that his followers will recover from this passing with grace. Devine |

I too am not Catholic, but I bow in respect for John Paul 11. May his soul be at peace and may Catholics celebrate his life with thanksgiving and grace. |

I am also not Catholic, but my greatest condolences to those who are. He seemed to be a wonderful, happy, loving, devoted man. His smile was so kind and he was so amazing with children. May he rest in peace. |

I was shopping when Pope John Paul II paseed away. I heard no bells or anything but I had been following and waiting for the inevitible. I even began a ritual Friday morning by lighting candles and incense on my altar for the protection for this great man's spririt and for him to have strength and courage to face his crossing into another plane of existance. I am not Catholic and never was, but I had a VERY deep respect for this man. Never once did you hear of him turning away a follower of any religion when they greeted him, he always returned the greeting and it was sincere. I think he was one of the very few in this world that truely saw the humanity in people when most others in this world cannot. May his spirit be in Peace and those of you that walked the same religious path, may you be at ease as the pain of the passing of your leader begins to fade and may your prayers give you comfort in this troubled time.
