A labyrinth can be created anywhere ... an open field, a woodland glade, a garden, a parking lot, a beach, gymnasium or even a tabletop ... whereever you have the space. A labyrinth creates a physical state of meditation through the simple act of movement ... whether its your whole body or just your fingers, the pattern of the labyrinth creates a psychological rebalancing of the forces within. To experiment with a table-top labyrinth, I'd suggest a round table or tray large enough to sit comfortably on your lap ...
You'll need:
a clean empty surface
practice paper
a pencil
paint or markers
a ruler
a compass string
I'd strongly suggest doing a bit of measurement for your surface to see what size or circuit you can use.... in labyrinths, bigger isn't always better since you can get the same effect from a 3 citcuit as a 7 so don't worry about it. Go for a simple 3 circuit on paper and see if thats what you like, if you think you can progress to a 7 then go for. Remember, pencil it in first then paint it as you like.
I used a large serving tray and layered the paint over the 'edges' of the pathways, giving it a slightly raised, 3D effect that can be traced with eyes closed. Its dark navy blue with a silver path, soothing and easy to follow.
Mine is this one, the 7 circuit
I'd love to hear from you if you decide to explore and experiment :o)
Have fun and enjoy!
