Hi all...
Made a trip to the vet yesterday with Sniffles and Had another infection in the sinuses and back on antibiotics. For some reason he keeps getting the flair ups. Does anyone know if I dare have him sedated to put in drains in due to all the problems? Lost alot of weight due to this darn stuff but after being on the meds for 24 hours he seems to be back to eating again.
Haley

Good morning, Haley.

I'm sorry that Sniffles has another infection. I emailed Skeeter (she has Oliver, who has a similar problem to Sniffles) and asked if she could come and tell you what she thinks. I believe that Oliver does have a stent to drain his sinuses. Skeeter is working these days, so I'm not sure when she will get here, but she will.

I'm praying that Sniffles does well.

Abby

Well that is so sad to hear and have you asked the vet about implanting a tube? Skeeter seems to do well with Oliver and she'll enjoy giving you the details...
Blessings to you both....

Haley, I check the "African Greys" section every few days just to see if there is an update on Sniffles, and I'm so sorry to hear that he's under the weather again.  Skeeter is great about checking in, so I know when she has time to get online again, she'll be available to help.  Best wishes to you and Sniffles.

Oh man...you've gotta be worrying yourself sick.  I sure hope the infection clears up and you won't have to go through the stent thing....but if you do..I hope you do as well as Skeeter does with Oliver.

Did the Vet happen to explain what might be the cause of the infection to return?

Have no clue to why it returned. I have him "camping" in my room til the spring thawcomes due to the one room I had him in was rather drafty and My room is warm.

Sorry for the long wait.  Worked the 10am to 7pm shift today, then got groceries.
Oliver doesn't have stents.  I asked about that, like they do for kids for their ears etc.  I was told that the membrane in a birds sinus drainage area is way too thin for stents.  We go through all these stages of infection too and still have to do sinus flushes, but only when I feel the need.  There's not more we can do.  It's just a continueous battle, but Oliver is so good~it's part of his daily routine.
Oliver was anesthitised(sp) or put under for his 3 surgeries and it didn't harm him one bit.  He had that catheter tubing put in 3x and had to go back each time to have it removed~it never stayed in permanetly.  Can't spell tonight!
Do keep Sniffles warm.    Skeeter

Haley  I am so glad you already see some improvement and hopefully this will be it for a while... It's always great to know the antibiotics kick in so quickly... keep us up to date on how he is and if you see him gaining any weight...
