Since our scare with bumblefoot a few years ago - we have had to be extra careful with the perching material we use for this big guy! It has been noticed that he has definitely missed his manzanita playstand but that was one of the things that had to go. At one of our local unique animal shows - we ran across a vendor who builds cat posts. I submitted a rough sketch and this is what he came up with! Moe absolutely LOVES this thing. It makes for some good exercise (without injury to his foot pads) climbing up and down and playing in the hidey holes! Since this went over so well with the bird - we've asked for a special play structure for the top and side of his cage. ........oh the things we'll do for our feathered pals Crystal "MOOOOM! Will ya move my toybox up here!!" |

That is such a cool idea, Crys ... Moe is obviously right at home! If I had more room I'd consider making similar things for my guy and gals, but alas, unless I give up my bedroom too .... lol Abby |

Does he climb up and down the posts? I think Cooper would love something like that! But with a larger platform on top. |

He climbs up and down.....backwards and forwards.....and if hubby is messing with any of his stuff.....he can climb with great speed!!! We had some mixed reactions when we introduced this thing into the house. The other birds must know it was for Moe - so for they've showed limited interest. It took a week before Moe would get on it. He'd check it out.....and pull toys from it while a hanging onto the side of his cage. Now he seems right at home.....especially in the hidey hole on the bottom shelf. This morning he demanded that my slipper share that space with him. Sherri, we are having one build that is wider.....but short. To fit the top of his cage. He likes to spend time up there and this will give him lots of climbing and comfortable "perching" areas. Crystal |

What a great use for a cat house. I am kinda surprised you aren't building these yourself, Crystal. Have you seen those kittie condos where they have round openings for them to crawl inside? What a nest that would make for a girl bird. Not for my girl bird, though. Got enough trouble without having a hidey hole. Annie |

Great Idea. My husband and I always thought of getting one of those bid cat stands for our grey and citron but we worried about their droppings on it. Does this clean up well?
Looks like he is sure having fun! Patti |

Crystal's birds don't poop. They don't drop food or chew anything up, either |

HA! I could only wish this was true! Unfortunately, I don't have a life so one never SEES the messes my birds make. Regarding the clean-up of this post - I use unscented baby wipes to get poop piles off of carpet. The next post we have made will be covered in green varigated carpet though. Crystal |

ok thanks, so I guess the answer is what I thought, you just clean it up. I am going to try gettnig a cat post someday to see how it works. THey are a bit expensive so I will have to keep an eye out for them on sale. It is definitely a good idea. Patti |
