For as long as I've had birds, I have never had a Quaker. I've done a lot of research, and I can not wait to get this little one! I've been dealing with a woman who has been hand-feeding 5 little ones and two are completely weaned so far (including mine). They are 9 weeks old. Besides quarantine, is there anything else I should do? Maybe something to make the baby feel comfortable? Should I handle it right away, or wait a few days? I've had parakeets, cockatiels, finches, love birds and a sun conure, so do the same "rules" apply?

Thanks! And I can't wait to introduce him or her!!

Beth

I haven't had a Quaker either. I have the opinion that any new bird needs a day or so, maybe more, to adjust to strange faces, strange voices and weird looking rooms.  You will be able to tell if he is calm or needs a couple of days to adjust. Talk to him in a low voice and try not to stare at him.
My ekkie was an exception. She was a snuggler from the moment I picked her up at the breeder's. My grey was a whole nuther type. He was terrified of me and the new surroundings. It took months to calm him down so I could pick him up without him panicking.

Be aware that weaned babies sometimes revert back to needing a handfeeding, or several. Ask the breeder to give you the name of the dry mix she uses and instructions on how to mix it. Some will give you a sample if you ask. I have gotten a sample from every breeder I have used. I ask.
Good luck.
I am anxious to see the pics. I love the look of Quakers.

Annie   Can you post that link to the Quaker that sings.  I have it in a million favorites and can't find it.  It is so adorable.

They are neat looking birds as Annie said.  But here in PA are illegal.  A shame.  In my quest for featherplucking info I found alot about Quakers and seen that alot of people make sure they have stuff to weave.  They love weaving it seems.  The way they make their nests.  Keeps them busy.

Congratulations on your baby!

Here it is. They've added a lot more videos of Pluto. He is the cutest thing I have ever seen.
