OK,  you're thinking "What's the big deal?  Birds take showers all the time!"  Not Harley!  In 10 years he's never willingly let me spray him.  I've tried, when I'm giving other birds showers, or when he starts flipping water from his dish, but always the same thing--he cowers in a corner and I stop.

Last night at 10:18--I checked the clock, because it was such a  momentous occasion --he suddenly started running around the side of his cage and down to his water dish, flipping water everywhere, so I got out the spray bottle and he PUT OUT HIS WINGS and actually seemed to be enjoying it!  I had to check several times to make sure he and Phoebe hadn't traded spaces.  He didn't let me get him very wet (which is fine, it was awfully late) but wow I was in shock

Good boy, Harley and I hope it wasn't a fluke!!!
Harley is like Oliver.  Oliver will hiss and attack a spray bottle~go figure.  I have no clue, why he doesn't appreciate spray bottles.  But LOVES a shower, in the shower.  He'll let me lift his wings and spray really well~it's a handheld shower head.  Which in "looks", looks almost like a spray bottle to me.  Another "go figure"!!!!   Oh well.  Skeeter

Hmmmmm ... I wonder what got into Harley! lol  I can understand why you had to make the most of the opportunity since it is a first!

Pepper is the only one of mine who does not like to shower or bath ... dirty little boy! lol

Most of my birds don't like spray bottles, but they love the shower. One of my parrotlets likes the bathroom faucet.
Brushing my teeth she would come see what I was doing. I have to keep the toilet seat down in that bathroom.
Hope the birds decide showers are fun.

Well finally he likes his showers... So late at night so he's a night owl.. That's what I still smile about is when they bathe in their dish, one limb at a time and the head dunking...

My little gal isn't keen on showering either unless there is a rain storm and she'll flap her wings and act crazy... Di is so much fun to watch when it rains as she'll sit under the eves where the rain actually can't get to her, and act as if it is... I can't get her on video as she's too far away and I don't want to stand in the rain taking her pic..

Tyco hates anything todo with bathing except when he emptying his water dish with his beak and feet he loves to put his feet in the water and kick it out of the bowl or he will put his whole head in and throw the water everywhere flapping his wings like crazy the whole time he will empty 3or4 water dishes before he stops. but try spraying him and he thinks your trying to kill him or something he cower in the corner scared to death if I put him in the shower he will climb the shower curtai trying to get away. So I just let him bath the way he wants too. Fergie on the other hand will actually get down  off her playstand and walk down to the bathroom saying bath all the way thereSprout and Luna bath daily. and Squeek my cockateil baths at least twice a week she's not real fond of it but she will get in the water if I leave a bowl out for her/him. What is it about Grey the seem to really not like the water? Pat

GB, has he repeated his willingness to be sprayed? I hope is becomes regular thing.
Birds sure can lead us on a merry chase at times can't they? They can be so notional.
I can relate to your getting excited at 'a simple shower'. I've felt the same when Kit decided to take a shower in the bathroom.
Kit is a strange bird. He doesn't like baths/showers... unless it is pouring rain out. I have tried a bowl, a shallow pan (he ignores them except fot a drink), the sink (he is panicky terrified of it), the tub (almost as bad as the sink), shower (mostly scared here, but has taken two- once every blue moon ).
The  spray bottle is another matter. most of the time, he is afraid of it. Especially if he is doing something that he knows is wrong. Like bending the wires on the tiels cages, pullinng their food dishes out, emptying cge trays, chewing on door casings, etc... All I have to do is reach for the spray bottle on my desk and he'll quit. I don't even need to touch it- but, if he wants a bath, he will stare at the bottle... then he starts hollering and flapping. When I reach for the bottle, he'll come running to the corner of the cage closest to me and holers, and flaps, and the whole 9 yards. As I said before, usually only if it's pouring rain outside. Otherwise he'll just run. I've tried the vacuum thing. I guess mine sounds wrong or something, but it doesn't work.  Rica is about the same as Kit. Nikon usually tries squeezing down into Kit's water dish. Nikon is the cleanest bird I have, lol. In the Cockatiels, most of the ones I raised like spray baths. Those that are rehomed birds are hit and miss. Sometimes they run and I'll stop, sometimes they'll fluff & fan. Go figure.

Have you ever tried a rain recording for Kit?  Here is a site for free sounds.  There is a play and also a repeat button.  I think there are hundreds of rain files.

I had to hit the back button cause I think I was playing too many sounds at once and couldn't tell which one was playing.

Gosh, every time I run my vacuum cleaner, all my birds take a bath.  And make a big mess.  I try to remember to vacuum before I clean cages because they actually empty their water bowls they get so excited.  I try to finish them off at least once a week with a nice aloe spray I got from their vet.  Then they spend an hour preening when they're finished.

Barb you must have the right vaccum cleaner! lol!  No baths here with the vaccum cleaner or a rain storm.  He just tells me when it's raining.  No way a bath though!

I get the "B" word when I spray him!

Mine react to the vacuum, too. Both start throwing water. I have to remember to change the water just before the vacuum turns on or we have pellet soup fortified baths.

All of mine love the vac and head for dishes if I don't have the garden spray bottle handy. I had to get one for up north that I'll leave here. Being able to pump it up before starting to spray saves a lot on my hands, plus it's a uniform mist that they get.
It also allows me to soak the papers in the bottom of the cages down so all I have to do is roll them up and toss, no worries about dust from dried droppings.
Technology is a wonderful thing!

We use that garden pump spray bottle too!  Little Buzzy likes to shower under the mist from it but he doesn't want a human close.  So...pumping it up and just setting it down - he has a blast!  He gets a shower and I get a clean floor all at the same time!

No  more repeats of a shower.   If he looked scruffy, I'd be concerned.  But he doesn't, so I guess once a decade is good for him
