Who can believe that July is here already? Obviously not Scots/Toolady or Nanners, or they would have started the Whistle! School is now out, so work begins in earnest at the School District Facilities department. Now is when we do our major maintenance and reno work. The birds are doing well. Basil just finished her bath in the dutch oven by the kitchen sink, so I just finished washing the kitchen floor! lol Have a wonderful July, everyone!! |

Yikes!!! I have never heard of twins that big! The biggest ones that friends of mine have had have been just under six pounds. 14 pounds of baby is a lot of baby. I was fortunate with my pregnancies, smoking made me feel really ill right from the start, so although I was a smoker I didn't smoke then. However, both babies were in smokey rooms after they were born, because back then everyone smoked. A non smoker was rarity in the hinterlands at that time ... in fact, there are still more smokers there than there are in the more urban areas. By the way, I have been a non-smoker since May 31, so I'm feeling pretty good about being over the worst of it (I hope! lol). Abby |

Congrats Di, Liz, new Mom and Welcome Summer! Good for you Leslie! I bet the worst is over for you now. Keep up the no smoking! OMG Etta... 15 lb babies??? I'd have died! None of mine were tiny, but one half again as big?? Nooooo thank you! Smallest was Orrin at 6lbs 9oz 21½" long at a month early, Jacob was my biggest at 10lbs 12oz and 24½" long. In the middle were Joshua at 8lbs 13oz and 22¼" long, Orrin at 8lbs 15oz and 22½" long and Julia at 9lbs 2oz and 21½" long. |

July is nearly over! Time is flying by around here! We are still in somewhat of a transitional period with changes taking place weekly! I'm finally back to work - THAT is a relief! Robert is taking a new position within his company which should happen in the next few days. An earlier shift - since we are both morning folks, this will be a welcome move! Randall started his new job - he was hired at our local PetCo. Given his years in 4-H and his home surroundings, they immediately gave him the title of Small Animal Specialist! Thats it for now! It's hot, hot, hot. I hired my nephew to clean out our creek of all the seedlings and ragweed. It was so thick it was blocking our southern breeze. He did half yesterday and it looks fabulous. He will probably be able to finish tomorrow. It's about 200 feet long and the banks of the creek are covered with weeds, too. I used to do it every year but I can't lean forward and use my arms anymore so it got really bad. Frances was on the patio again this morning but I had nothing to feed her. I am not sure how she gets up there. It's about a 7 inch step up. Maybe she crawls up over the landscape timbers that surround the flowerbed. She got off to go eat the suet scraps. We are overrun with tomatoes. Having them at every meal and the fridge has lots in it, too. Amy took a bunch again last night. She brought two cds of the Nicaragua trip so I could make copies for three people. I made one for me, too. The toucan in this one looks gorgeous. It's a bit blurred but still very pretty. I'll put it in my album later so y'all can see him. Amy has been asked to be on the board of our local animal shelter. She will attend the next two meetings so they can look her over, then they will vote. I hope she gets on because she's wonderful with animals. Annie |

Annie, share a tomato or two with Frances, I'll bet she'll eat one. My sister has had several tortoises for many years, or I should say decades and they love all kinds of veggies. I hope Amy is chosen to be on the animal shelter board, organizations like that need intelligent and giving people who are really dedicated to the organization as well as the animals they serve. di |

Hi all! First posting on the Whistle. I'm here at the house with just (JUST?!?) Squirt. Rick is in Ohio at his folks. the lady we're buying a house from signed the offer papers today. We're going to try to get a mortgage for it without waiting to sell ours in Louisiana first. If the LA house doesn't sell in a few months, I guess we'll rent it out. The place we're buying is a cute little place built in either the 30's or 40's. It's been mostly updated with new siding, windows, and bathroom. I have NO IDEA what style the house is. Here's a couple of pix Anybody know what, if any, style this house is? |

Pam, I put your pictures in your album, "Woo's Pics". Now, I'll insert them here, and they should be the right size. Now you can just add your comments. That's how I get all mine to resize properly. I just put them in my album and MSN resizes them for me quite nicely. Abby |

I give up on the copy and paste! Abby, thanks for the reposting. I'll find out later exactly what you did! Right now, I'm tring to round up people to help me pack. I have a combo Lyme disease and fibromyalgia (caused by the Lyme) so trying to do physical labor for several hours a day is out of the question. Lucky for me, a bunch of my hubby's ex-students are more than willing to help. With any luck I can tell the moving people to get me going around the 14th or 15th. |

Pam, I'm not knowledgeable about house styles, except for the more obvious ones. However, I really love your new one. It has such clean lines, is a beautiful colour, and has lots of character. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the inside once you've moved in! Good luck with the packing. I'm sure glad that you have help! Abby |

The inside has hardwood floors that probably need to be refinished but we may not get that done while we have Squirt. 150 pound dog can be hard on wood even though he's 8 1/2 now and not very active. Still has BIG feet and the nails to go with them! Funny thing is that the front part of the living room used to be the porch which somewhere along the way got enclosed. When they laid the new flooring (all those decades ago) the put the new part running at 90 degrees from the old. Looks really wierd. W're going to get estimates on pulling that part up and relaying the boards in the same direction. Might cost way too much. Area rug? |

What a pretty, clean looking, house. I like it a lot. The porch and steps look new. I would guess a craftsman style, but they come in all shapes and sizes. Watch hgtv. They show them on House Hunting. Annie |

The siding, windows, front porch and front door are all new within the last 6 years. So is the deck on the back. From what I understand, there used to be a different front porch that somewhere along the way was enclosed and made part of the front of the house. Until the current owner came along (the lady who is selling to us), there wasn't any porch, just what we call a "stoop". Hard telling what features of the original house are hidden by all the alterations. One thing I did notice is that it's asymetrial from the front. I think this is a feature of some kind of house from the time period but I don't know what. Don't even know for sure when the house was built. |
