Internet Freedom and Free Speech Online

So just what does it mean to support "free speech"or "Internet Freedom" today? Does this freedom exclude pornographic material? What about racist Hate Speech or MSN forums? What about exposing people who are frauds and liars? What about chat rooms? Many people who claim to support free speech can also think of a number of exceptions. A position summed up by saying "I'm against censorship, but...".

When it comes to free speech or Internet Freedom it has no "buts". I support freedom of expression without reservation. Freedom of speech for my enemies just as much as my supporters. Not because I think my opponents views are equally valid, but because I put a value on people's ability to make up their own minds.

Internet Freedom is opposed to all forms of censorship and content regulation on the Net. We believe that users should be free to make their own judgements about what they read, watch, chat rooms or hear.

If America's founding fathers had anticipated the Internet frontier, there would be a clause in the Constitution protecting your rights online, as well.

We want to ensure the continuation of the Internet as a forum for open, diverse, and unimpeded expression.  Promote openness and encourage informed public debate and discussions without filtering online content. We oppose any governmental effort to promote, coerce, or mandate the rating or filtering of online content.

I believe in protecting the free speech and expression rights of both the speaker and the audience in the interactive online environment.

We want to ensure that Internet writers are able to reach the broadest possible interested audience and that Internet readers are able to access all material of interest to them.

Our past controversy forums have provoked threats and have led to our site being closed more than once. But this has simply made us more resolute in our determination to allow Internet users and chatters to judge things for themselves. I hope that you will.
