UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE #1

Many People today are going the wrong way. In John 14:6 Jesus spoke saying “I am the way, the Truth and the Life.?/P>

This is the message of the Bible.

It is the story of Salvation, the story of you redemption and mine through Jesus Christ, the story of life, Peace, and of eternity. How many of us know how many books are in the Bible?

The Bible contains 66 Books written over a period of several hundred years by many different Men. The Message, Divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit is consistant and clear throughout all 66 Books.

We have 66 books -- that would be a library for some people -- but these 66 are all one. The Bible is old -- yet is New.

When we hear someone say:

?The Bible is old and does not fit the needs of our times?or they say “With all the scientific achievements man had made?or they say ?That Book is so “out of date?/P>

We can know they have not been reading it.

Because “all?who read and believe and love the Bible, it is relevant for all generations. In the Bible -- our Holy Scripture:

We find answers to the question:

1. Where did I come from?

2. Why am I here?

3. Where am I going?

4. What is my purpose?

5. Why do I exist?

One of the greatest Needs in church -- (The Body of Christ)

We need to come “Back to the Scripture as the basis of Authority. To Study the Scripture, To be prayerfully dependent on the Holy Spirit.

When we read “GOD’S WORD, We are filling our hearts with His Words and GOD is SPEAKING To Us. A professor and president of Yale University made a statement that is very true.

“I thouroully believe in a university education for both men and women; but I believe a knowledge of the Bible without a college course is more valuable the a college course without the Bible.?/P>

The greatest tragedy or problem today is that “The Bible is available for so many but they don’t read it. Or they read it without applying it to their own lives. No greater tragedy can come to us or a Nation than that of paying lip service to a Bible that sits on the shelf unread or to a way of life not followed.

The Bible the greatest document available for the human race,

Needs to be opened

Needs to be read

Needs to be believed.

A survey done in 1966 shows

12% of people who said the believe the Bible actually read it every day

34% read it once a week

42% read it once in a great while.

22% Have not even a clue

I wonder what the numbers or percentages would show now in 2004?

This Series should help make the reading and study of God’s Word

Interesting, Challenging and useful.

We are going to find out what the Bible is all about. We are going to learn interesting facts and learn more about GOD in the process.

The Bible will be more important to each of us when we are through with this series.
