Today I passed a Christmas yard art with a smiling Santa bending over baby Jesus. I've never seen that before and not sure what to make of it. We do involve "Santa" in our Christmas and now we celebrate Jesus's birthday. Just wanted your opinions on this. Thanks :) (oh, and before when I saw "x-mas" it didn't even phase me and used it myself. Now I see it and understand the people who don't like it because it's taking Christ out of Christmas. Funny how things change once you believe. ;) Monette |

Well... JMHO.... First of all, I use Xmas all the time. I will refer you to this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xmas which explains the Christianity behind using the X. Whoever came up with that taking the Christ out of Christmas business is all wet. I wouldn't use it in that case! As far as Santa and Baby Jesus.... I have a statue that shows Santa with him. To me it is a sweet combination of the two things. It doesn't mean I have to deny either of them but can celebrate both Jesus's birthday and the joys of children's beliefs around the world. Jesus loved the children and I can think of no better way to celebrate than to bring smiles to their faces. Yes, we have gotten carried away but that is a personal decision any family can choose to change. We don't get overly carried away here. I see nothing at all wrong with it and think it is great to bring Santa and Jesus together. |

I agree with you :) I just didn't want to put my feelings down in case it influenced anyone's opinions. I went to Mardel's (Christian book/toys/music/and other stuff store) and they also had Santa in there. I like the combo of the two also. Monette |

I have a sweet figurine of "Santa Kneeling" before Baby Jesus which I purchased several years ago. I love it. Remember, even Santa kneels to Jesus. As the scripture says, "Every knee shall bow before Him". It makes the point that Santa isn't the important one but Jesus IS the reason for the season. As for using "Xmas" instead of Christmas, I have used it at times (like shorthand) for many years. To me, the X represents the Cross for Christ and "mas" comes from Mass, for Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. Santa brings gifts of joy as God gave us the gift of joy in Christ. He gladdens the hearts of children as Christ has gladdened the hearts of God's children in Him. That's the way I see it. Thanks for asking, Monette. I hope this helps you. May you have a Merry CHRISTmas and a Happy, Healthy, Safe, and Prosperous New Year! |
