March 19 ,2004 I was in a horrible car accident. One car struck the car I was in , on my side , so I got the brunt of the hit. I had extensive brain damage , broken rib, punctured lungs, a fractured left pelvis , among others ...
Shit happened
Three years later , I am still in constant severe 24/7 pain in my left hip. Numerous doctors -both homeopathic doctors , and Boston's best haven't made any progress on helping me.
I went through a suicide attempt to end it all ..... shit happened ... and I am still in so much pain . I cannot handle it.

I don't even know if this is what this is all for , but that is me . This is how I define myself;

Overpops,
Hi, welcome to the group.  I'm sorry that we've not responded to you sooner.  We don't check this board very often as we mainly use the "general message" board.  I just now saw your post and wanted to welcome you and ask you to join us over at the over board.  I know everyone would love to chat with you.  I'm sorry you've had such a hard time since the car accident.  It certainly sounds like life has been very difficult for you.  We can all understand your chronic pain as we all suffer from it on a daily basis as well.  Please feel free to join us over on the general board soon.  I look forward to talking to you there.

Welcome to the group Whitney!
I am sorry, I don't think people saw this posting, I will link it over to the general board as well.  Maybe we should make a habit of linking the bio's over there, as this is a common thing.
I am so sorry you were in that terrible accident, and were so badly hurt.  It sounds like you were lucky to come out of it alive, although you may sometimes wonder if you really were lucky.   However, I am glad you did find us here, it is good to have a place to talk about our pains and health issues.  Most young people your age don't sit around discusssing their PT or new meds, or their sleeepless nights, but we do!  Please feel free to jump into an exisitng thread or to begin your own.  We have a trivia thread going that helps pass a few minutes, we'd love you to join in that too.

Hi, Whitney, and welcome to the family!  I think you just won the prize for being the youngest member, too.  : )  Aren't you lucky?  Jenn will be so happy to hand that little trophy over, I'm sure.

While I've never been in that kind of a car accident, I HAVE been in a sledding accident that shattered my jaw six ways from Sunday.  I broke it in three places on my chin, pulverized the bones on both sides at the TMJ joints, I suppose it was, bit through the skin below my lower lip.  All because I went off a 17 foot drop on my sled and landed on my chin beside the highway.  I don't recommend it!  I had my teeth wired shut for 7 weeks and still have gold wires holding my jaws together, but I had a fabulous plastic surgeon and I was very lucky.

It sounds to me like you may have developed CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) because your pain has not been aggressively treated from the beginning.  As a consequence, the pain has now become the disease.  I suspect the doctors worried about you becoming addicted to pain medication because of your young age, so they didn't treat the pain as well as they should have or could have.  You need to find a good pain management clinic, Whitney, one that will treat the pain.  You should NOT be in so much pain that you are suicidal.  Your doctors should take that very seriously.  If they don't, fire their butts.  THEY work for YOU, not the other way around; never forget that.
Cyndy

Welcome Whitney.  Glad you have joined our little family; and we're sure you will like it here, too.

Sorry to hear you have so many pain issues...living with pain ain't fun; we all know that. But I do hope you are getting some decent pain relief...but it doesn't sound like you are.  Are you seeing a "pain management doctor" at all?? They are usually best when it comes to treating chronic pain....most of them are anestheologists.  I've been going to one for over 8 years now; and it's the best thing I ever did.  He's a wonderful doc!  Before I would have to rely on the 'generosity' of doctors that would give me about a month's worth of pain meds; and that was with me begging them...lol.

Again, glad you are here with us....and, if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.  You can read about me (or anyone else) in the "meet the manager/member" boards listed on the left hand side.

Hi:

I am so sorry you had your car accident! At times in each of our lives we can shout "Life Sucks"...and it does sometimes my friend! Some folks have minimum pain and some have severe pain! Some pain flares up and subsides! After my car accident in 1974,  when I was discharged from the Marines, I could barely walk. I felt my life had ended and I began to drink every night feeling sorry for myself. As I walked down the middle of my street at 2 am, I said, if someone ran me over right now and killed me, who would come to my grave? No One!

Just then a police car came around the corner and pulled over and stopped. I got up on the sidewalk, and they asked my why I was walking down the middle of the street? Not wanting to have a hangover in jail, I quickly said, "Well officer, the last bar I was in was playing "Walking the line" by Johnny Cash, and honest, I was just walking the line with Johnny Cash!

They both laughed and I pointed to where I lived and they let me walk home! But that day was a turning point for me! I had never been depressed before. I had always tried to be there for other's. Because I didn't take the "Easy way out"; I went on to go to college, have a daughter and a son, and go on to be a writer for 25 years, and now, here I am at this group. It is a terrible thing to endure pain constantly and not have relief. It makes us angry and bitter that others seem to have such a good life!

All I can offer you is to se eif there isn't something the drs. can do for you to ease your pain. I wish I could say more to help you. I am glad you did not take the easy way out.

Raymond.
