Did you taper off the other medication before you started this one. You are never supposed to stop studdenly or you will have this kind of side effects. Your doctor should have told this to you.

Hi. I'm taking 120mg Avinza each evening. (It's a timed release morphine.) The tics could be from the morphine. I had some minor ones to start with but they disappeared after a few weeks. The only other side effect that I have experienced is that morphine is notorious for shutting down the kidneys. My Dr told me to take two vegetable based laxatives each evening with the meds. I take the generic form of Senekot. It's called Senna, by Equate, and is sold at WalMart.

Best.

Joolieana,
Hello to you...Yes my body jerks, I call it jumps, sometimes so high off the bed it is frightening...WHY? My Doc told me it's like an earth quake trying to settle down, an aftermath of it, in our case our nerves...there trying to heal from what he told me...It happened to me especially after surgery on my neck, now it's a year later and it still does it but not as bad, except if I have one of those days where I think I can lift mountains and clean the whole house in one day...don't be upset about it there is really nothing they can do, but this is what I have been told, maybe someone else here has a better explanation for you... or

look here it helps you find your pain...jumping...

God Bless,
Love Shelley

If you have a spinal cord problem, something that causes the spinal cord to be impinged at a certain level, you can get "clonus" spasms. These are electrical impulses that just get caught between your spinal cord impingment and where they originated, causing your legs, for example to just "jump". or, if it's in your neck, your arms could do the same thing.

These are perfectly normal and very controlable. Baclophen, a fast acting, very strong muscle relaxer is very effective in preventing these.

Lots of love and healing hugs,

Dan

Mine jerks too but it does not hurt and is usually when I am reclining in bed with pillows using my laptop computer like now. At least they do not hurt. I am past morphine and on methadone which is great stuff along with my neurontin generic version that tastes terrible.

On the senna it is a leaf I buy by the pound sealed sack for the discount at the health food store and I grind it and Flax seed from a california Winco store or the HF store which is more expensive and buy psyllium seed grind it too and buy wheat germ flakes bulk from winco and after ground up keep in freezer mixed and add a heaping tablespoon to my morning cereal which is mini shredded wheat with a banana sliced on it and I have lost 120 pounds on veggies, fish and eggs and soy milk, soy powder and vitamins and water aerobics.

Doing Great and my Kaiser HMO lets me have accupuncture monthly, had a pain management class and will be taking a hypnosis class in December. Can't complain with my care.

When I was on morphine I would do the same, or when ever I ran out of morphine, I would not be able to sleep at nights because of my foot, my arms, and my hand would jerk and have a bad sensation that was incompatible. Some times it would be my whole body too. Now I am taking Hybrocodone.

Mine has always done it (well, I mean since I've been on all these pain meds, etc.) . . . . . it did the jumps/jerks really bad when I was on the duragesic patches . . . however, now that I've cut down on my Buspar (anit-anxiety med) it doesn't do it as much . . . it never does it during the day, unless I'm sleeping . . . when I'm laying on the couch relaxing or sleeping is when it is the worst . . . so don't think you're weird or anything . . . it's happening to a lot of us . . .
Hugs,
Magic Lizzy

I experienced the same while taking MSContin ( Morphine). Very uncomfortable but as soon as I stopped the Morphine they stopped as well.

I also get a lot of jerking of limbs, I put it down to muscle spasms, they only happen when laid in bed.
I always blamed it on Peripheral Neuropathy but maybe it could be Morphine, I have been taking that for 8 years now but the jerking only started 3 years ago. I also get terrible night sweats, they come on instantly and within seconds I am soaked from head to foot. They get so bad I have to use a mattress protector. Its as if someone has thrown a bucket of water at me.

Hi, My jerking is mostly whenever I am just sitting or laying still. Maybe that is just when I notice it the most. I am not on morphine or any pain reliever really. I take fiorinal for migraines but that is about it. I am going to the doc on Monday I will see what he says and pass it along, thanks grama deb
