Hi, Gang,
I've been learning about insulin since going on it in September, and I've been curious--how much insulin do people take?
I take 26 iu of Levemir and about 10 of Novorapid a day.
How does that compare with your figures?
Jim

Hi, Sarah,
It's just curiosity. I know that I have to work out my own dosages. I just want to see how people's dosages work out.

I take 2-3 untis of Lantus at 8 PM.  I take Humalog on a sliding scale with all meals, at least 4 X per day.  One unit per 20 grams carb in the meal, with doses to match fluctuations in sugar levels.  Plus, if I'm feeling odd, I test and may need to take more (or eat sugar, depending on what the result is)  You gotta be a math whiz!  LOL!
You dose will depend on what you and your doctor have worked out for you.  What works for one person will not work for someone else.  I and EXTREMELY sensitive to insulin, because of my history of kidney problems.  And I am a very skinny person, and my docs have told me I react to medications more strongly than someone larger, because of my rather small mass.    HUGS!  sheryl

I'm on a pump so my basal rate (what I get all day regularly) is about 10 units and then I give insulin at meals to cover carbs which can vary but I say about 4-5 units per meal.  So I use 30 or less units a day of Novolog.

I am lean, have been diabetic 34 years and take 20 units of levemir a day, plus about 5-8 units of novolog before meals.  I know other diabetics who take three times as much and others who take only a small amount.  We are all different.

My current dosages are 2 units for every 10 carbs plus 2 units for every 40 over 150 mg/l of Humalog and 30 units in morning and 34 units in morning of Lantus.
My dosages changes almost everytime I go to the endocrinologist. I go every three months. Still working out the kinks of my dosages.

I take 23 units of Lantus each morning.... as you can see, we're all so different.  It always amazes me when I see so many different answers to a question..... Peace,Cheryl
