Pumpkin Beer

Description: There is pumpkin beer on the market. You can brew your own at home. If you already make home brew, the extra steps are easy. These steps were given to me by a friend who is taking a course in home brewing. While I enjoy beer, I have never brewed it myself. The instructions below only address the added steps, not the complete brewing process.

All grain brewing:

  1. Add two pounds of  pumpkin meat to your mash.  Either steam the pumpkin and remove the flesh or pumpkin puree
  2. Mash and sparge.
  3. Add spices at the end of the boil.
  4. Try adding a little nutmeg and/or cinnamon to your spices.

That's all folks!

Drink and enjoy!

  9. Sample juice, add more honey if it is not sweet enough for your taste.

Pumpkin Juice

2 cups fresh pumpkin, peeled and chopped up into chunks
2 cups apple juice
1/2 cup pineapple juice
honey, to taste
cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and/or allspice (all ground, to taste)

Juice the pumpkin pieces by squeezing through a cheesecloth or using
a juicer if you have one. Pour the pumpkin juice, apple juice and
pineapple juice into a blender. Add the honey (start with 1 teaspoon,
as you can add some later!) to the juices and blend thoroughly.
Add your spices (to taste). This might take some experimentation to get right.

Chill your pumpkin juice or serve iced and enjoy!
