Hi Folks;

Well, we didn't do as good a job with Katy's wall this past week as we did the previous week with Carol's, but we did give her a few things to chew on.

This week is Ray's brickwall, entitled" Brickwall" and posted on 12/6/2002. He's looking for data on his g-g-grandparents SCHWAB/LEE and g-g-grandparents LEE/WELLS, and their families. A gist of Ray's data follows:

G-g-grandfather: Emil SCHWAB b. June 17, 1873, Chicago IL
G-g-grandmother: Carrie L. (Lala) LEE b. June 30, 1879 Princeton, Bureau Co. IL
Married: Princeton, Bureau county April 4 1900 (he has the marriage certificate).

Carrie's parents:
G-g-g-grandfather: George Henry Lee b. Rhode Island
G-g-g-grandmother: Lucy Almira WELLS b. Illinois

Misc:
1) George Henry LEE served with Company F 57 Regiment Illinois Infantry.
2) Emil and Carrie SCHWAB moved to CA prior to 1913--needs info on family prior to move west..

Ray, Mel has already found some stuff for you today and I've found your family in 1900 and 1910 (power outage ate it--I'll have to retrieve it again) do you want to update this data?

*****
Following Ray will be Jackie with "My Brick Wall" posted on 12/6/2002. A gist of Jackie's messages follows. (Jackie you had a lot of responses to this early on--do you want to update?)

Jackie's main brickwall is g-g-granddad, John C. SANDS--who were his parents and siblings? She is also looking for the death certificates for John and her other g-g-granddad, Martin ERICKSON. She's requested info on both from Vermilion Co., Champaign Co., and the Vermilion Co. Genealogy Society, to no avail.

Data follows:
Rev. Martin ERICKSON
b. Dec.1,1840 Norway
d. 31 July 1906, Vermilion Co., IL

John C.SANDS.
b. 1833 at sea enroute from Ireland, d. 13 Oct.1912 Vermilion Co.
m1. 1857 Jersey Co.IL to Christena HUTCHCRAFT
m2. (Not proven)June 1870 St.Clair IL to Nancy A. HAMILTON

Christena HUTCHCRAFT
b. 1840 IL died 1870 Mt.Vernon,IL:.

Children: Rueben, b 1858 IL
Mary, b.1861 IL--m. John CHERRY
John C., b 1870 IL

Nancy A. HAMILTON
b 1855 Scotland
d. unknown
Children: Anna L., b 1877 IL, d. 1932
Hugh, b. 1880 Illinois
Charles, b 1885 Illinois

Jackie found John C.SANDS in:
a) 1860 Bond Co.census,
b) 1870 Jefferson, Mt.Vernon census,
c) 1880,1900,1910 census,but can't find him in 1850. He would have been around 17 in 1850.

Misc: John SANDS was a private in the Civil War--Company F, 48th Inf., Illinois
One of the papers Jackie has states that John C. SANDS was b. in 1838, in Ramsey, IL vice being b. at sea in 1833.
The Rev. Martin Erickson was a Minister of the Gospel..

*****
Cheers, Wayne

Hi Ray;

It looks like a reasonable bet that Emil's mom was named Cariline also. I found the following in the 1920 Census. "Pass it forward!", Cheers, Wayne

Wayne,

Sure did get the 1900, but the old fashion way, no index. Guess I have to start saving my money for more (grandkids lost my 1860).  You are so quick

This bothered me, could not find Emil in 1880 ANYWHERE.  Looks like he should have been in this family.

Hi Mel;

You ladies are always making me blush with all the compliments. As I see it, you and Caroline always lead the charge.

BTW: I'm taking a short sabbatical from IKK research (I'll still do the Brainstorming messages and one RAOGK every day) to try and data base all the stuff I found while in Chicago (all the way back in May) and since. I also need to build a family tree. So please keep up the good work.

"Pass it forward!" and "Perform a random act of kindness today!"

Cheers, Wayne

P.S. Loved the poem and the quote--they say it all. Let me add that if everyone who is the recipient of an act of kindness takes the time to "pass it forward" many of today's problems will be quickly solved.

Hi Ray;

On the assumption that Andrew and Caroline Schwab might be related to Emil I did a search in Genealogy.com, with the following results.

And. Schwab found in:
Germans to America, 1850-1874

Andrew Schwab found in:
U.S./International Marriage Records, 1340-1980

Andrew Schwab found in:
Illinois, 1851-1900 Marriage Index
Gender: The gender of Andrew Schwab is male.
Spouse: Johanna Marie D. Luth
Marriage Date: Jan 23, 1881
County: Kendall
More About: This record can be found at the County Court Records, Film # 1403534.

1900 Census, IL, Bureau Co., Milo Twp., ED 19, Sheet 7B, Page 115a,
Roll 238, Book 2, 9 June 1900
Joseph Schwab, Head, W, M, Jun 1877, 23, S, IL, GE, GE, Farmer, Rents farm
Peter Schwab, Brother, W, M, Aug 1878, 21, S, IL, GE, GE, Farmer,
Anna Schwab, Sister, W, M(sic), May 1880, 20, S, IL, GE, GE, Servant
Hiram J. Mineer, Servant, W, M, Jan 1877, 23, S, IL, IL, Farm laborer

Down the road is Andrew and Caroline (right age for the one in Princeton in 1920). She had seven kids--3 in the household, 3 in the previous entry, leaving 1--Paulina. This strongly suggests that these are NOT Emil's parents but odds are good that they are kin.
Andrew Schwab, Head, W, M, Feb 1847, 53, M, 26, -, -, GE, GE, GE, 1866, 34, Na, Farmer, Owns farm
Caroline R. Schwab, Wife, W, F, Sep 1854, 45, M, 26, 7, 7, GE, GE, GE,
Andrew Schwab, Son, W, M, May 1882, 18, S, -, -, -, IL, GE, GE, Farm laborer
George Schwab, Son, W, M, Jan 1885, 15, S, -, -, -, IL, GE, GE, At school
Minnie Schwab, Daughter, W, F, Dec 1889, 10, S, -, -, -, IL, GE, GE, At school

It looks as though the enumerator screwed up here since this is actually Andrew Jr. vice Andrew Sr.
1910 Census, IL, Bureau Co., Milo Twp., ED 23, Sheet 3A, Page 11a,
Roll 232, Book 1, 21 Apr 1910,
Andrew Schwab, Head, M, W, 27, S, -, -, -, IL, GE, GE, Farmer--general farm
Carolina Schwab, Wife (sic), F, W, 57, M1, 33, 7, 7, GE, GE, GE, None
George Schwab, Son, M, W, 25, S, -, -, -, IL, GE, GE, Farm laborer
Minnie Schwab, Daughter, F, W, 20, S, -, -, -, IL, GE, GE, None
