Elephant
The heavy weights of Africa and Asia, elephants are huge and massive mammals weighing between 5.5 to 7 tones. They travel with their close family members and stop to enjoy a cool bath in a mud hole or pond and to play with their young. The elephant's social group, called a "kin group", is led by a matriarch, a mature and strong mother elephant. The group may have up 4 generations of elephants who will travel along migratory paths that were taught as a safe passage generation after generation.
Elephants teach everyone the importance of family, our closest relationships. If elephant is your totem you are going to be mothered and nurtured along until you are able to do things on your own. Elephant comes to someone who needs a little more tender love and attention at times. Maybe you see yourself as a loner now, but elephant won't let you hang alone for very long. Elephant brings you closer to your family members insisting you get to know them better and to enjoy family activities that bring you together. It teaches you that your grandparents, aunts and uncles, and even cousins are part of your family and spending time with them will give you a sense of comfort and belonging. "Get to know that you belong with your family more than to your friends", says mother elephant. Elephant demands you respect your elders, parents and ancestors. Elephant extends this wisdom even more to tell you that you are also a part of your community. You are likely to be fulfilled when you give service to others who live around you. Collect cans for charity or clean up your streets. Whatever you do, elephant wishes you would join in on and enjoy community spirit.
