The 5 Step Personal Process

and the

5 Universal Laws of Consciousness

Where investigating philosophy and paths of personal/spiritual transformation are concerned, it can be very confusing knowing where to start and how to identify what is useful to your everyday life. To help this process I have, over many years of personal and philosophical investigation, isolated what I believe are the essential elements that facilitate positive change in the human mind. These elements, principles or laws have been condensed to five in number and can be applied in a personal growth process or as general philosophical laws of consciousness. They are called laws from the context of natural laws like gravity. For example: When you practice complete self-acceptance in your life in a very conscious and dedicated way it brings predictable and positive results - such as significantly reducing anxiety and stress and producing increased feelings of self-worth and self-esteem. This seems to apply to everyone. Therefore, this indicates that acceptance is a general law of consciousness. Acceptance can also be practiced to high degrees resulting in corresponding states of inner peace, balance and serenity.

Investigating the various philosophical paths within the framework of the 5 Universal Laws of Consciousness makes these paths much more accessible and understandable. The 5 Step Personal Process helps us to identify with these paths from our own personal experience. This framework makes it much easier to see how these philosophies work in practical everyday situations.

The "5 Step Process
For Emotional Healing, Wisdom and Empowerment"

This is the personal process that is used to directly work with our emotional wounds, fears, insecurities and confusion. It is designed to develop your own compassionate relationship with yourself. This loving connection to our own human self is the doorway to harmony with all beings. It is the backbone of my Transpersonal Psychotherapy Practice and the self-help books I have written. Practicing this 5 Step Process facilitates emotional healing and clarity and leads to greater self-empowerment and self-mastery. It also brings a more human connection to meditation.

Step 1. Acceptance
Step 2. Personal Responsibility
Step 3. Let go and tune in
Step 4. Live in the Now
Step 5. Live the Process

Short Summary:

Step 1. Acceptance
Without acceptance we cannot heal or grow. Often we feel that our problem is that other people don't accept us, until we stop and realise that this simply reflects the level we don't accept ourselves. Every human being has fears and insecurities and gets confused. Every human being has natural wisdom and a deep capacity to love. When we can accept both sides of ourself, we can consciously bring these two parts of ourself together. The doorway to our true potential then opens to us. We are then in a better position to accept and work with any challenges that we may face in life.

Step 2. Personal Responsibility
When you combine acceptance with responsibility, judgement is taken out and replaced with compassionate caring for your own humanness and the humanness of others. Facing your issues is much easier when you take this approach because it simply becomes an opportunity to build a better relationship with yourself. Unhealthy dependency and conflict is reduced, and an increasing inner-harmony is the result. Your connections with the world around you naturally begin to heal and expand.

Step 3. Let Go & Tune In
The key to happiness and empowerment is a harmonious connection to our own self, both human and spirit. Getting caught up in judgement and conflict shatters this connection. As we learn to let go of these negative thought patterns and instead tune into and care for our own needs and feelings, we discover our own power of wisdom and healing. As a result we gain an increasing experience of command over our own lives. As a result we increasingly attract love and abundance into our lives.

Step 4. Live in the Now
When we get in touch with our needs and feelings, we are increasingly able to then have the clarity of mind to take wise action on our own behalf. Another benefit of tuning in is that we discover how to learn from the past, set goals and make plans for the future, but live in the now. As a result our life simplifies, and our happiness and vitality increases. Self-empowerment and self-mastery becomes a real experience in our lives.

Step 5. Live the Process
Step 5 is committing to this new empowered way of approaching life. By working these steps, every problem becomes an opportunity to connect more with ourself and your world and grow stronger. Our ability to trust and be confident increases, and we attract healthier relationship and manage the ones we have better. Every day we increasingly emerge into our true potential. Everyday we have something to give back to the world for we increasingly have love to spare.

Long Summary:
Step 1. Total Self-Acceptance
I accept my right to be human.
As human beings we are totally acceptable and worthy - we have always been so and always will be. This is absolute. Our human imperfections do not effect our worth as human beings. Self-judgement, created from old emotional wounds, attacks our worth and is the real reason for our suffering. When we are suffering, our mind is in a state of confusion. Deep down we are crying out for love and healing. We can heal ourselves because we are also Souls of true perfection. Self-acceptance creates within our being a state of unity that prepares the way for healing. Therefore we are imperfect and perfect, and this is perfectly human.

Step 2. Total Personal Responsibility
I am committed to care for myself.
Personal responsibility is the total commitment to care for ourselves in the spirit of total self-acceptance, gentle patience, and unconditional love. There is no judgement. By working this step we realise that our negative thoughts and emotions come from our own confused and wounded mind. As human beings we have the power to stand apart from our wounded mind and hold it in a loving space of compassionate and patient acceptance. Whenever we experience discontent we have another opportunity to care for and heal our painful thoughts and emotions. Our pain is our responsibility. We are not a victim. We can also care for ourselves by reaching out for help. Step 2 reveals to us the vital importance of this absolute commitment to care for ourselves, and how this commitment releases us from unhealthy dependency by aligning our consciousness to our heart and Soul.

Step 3. Letting Go
I change my world by changing myself.
Letting go reveals how to step out of the ego games of blame, conflict and control, and step into the freedom of personal growth and healing. This step helps us to recognise that there is nothing outside of our self. Our life simplifies dramatically when we accept that all that we experience is our self experiencing the world. To change our life it is our own reactions to the world, and the people in it, that we need to focus on and take total responsibility for. We do this by staying present with our own physical sensations, emotions and thoughts in the spirit of loving compassion for ourselves. By staying in touch with our self in this way our ego also opens to our Soul, giving us the power to heal and the clarity of mind to move into wise action. We gain a great focus of power to change our world by first healing and re-aligning any part of our own mind that is not motivated by unconditional love for our self and all others. Every experience then becomes an opportunity to grow in self-awareness, self-love, and self-empowerment. We can change our world by simply changing our self.

Step 4. Live in the Now
I stay present in the now and find oneness with life.
As a physical being with its ego, we can only act in the now. We have no power over the past or the future other than ensuring that we make the most of today, which points us in the right direction for tomorrow. We can only learn from the past, make plans and set goals for the future, and then trust our Soul to take care of rest. Therefore, regret and worry is a form of victim thinking and is in need of healing. When we forget and slip back into our old ways, we can pick the process up again at any time and learn from our human mistakes. Everyday is a new day. With this realisation our life simplifies even more and we find we have a greater ability to make the most of our opportunities. It does not matter what directions we take. By working the steps and therefore staying connected to the guidance of our own heart, in time we always end up going the right way.

Step 5. Live the Process
I live the process and gain the power to take command of my life one day at a time.
There is no moment in life that does not contain a lesson. Without an effective process for healing, wisdom and self-empowerment we are travelling blind in a world of confusion. Having a solid process to guide us ensures that we grow in awareness of these lessons and learn from them. Being totally committed to such a process means that it becomes our new way of life. As we gain a deeper understanding of this new way of thinking we soon realize that we have the ability to face anything that crosses our path. Every experience in life becomes an opportunity to expand our consciousness and transcend our suffering. We do this by remaining open and tuned into our own being. We then have something to give to others, because we now know how to remain open to receive from the Light of our own Soul, which is directly connected to the source of life itself.

Questions and answers about the 5-Step Process.

Q. How long does it take for the 5-Step Process to take effect in my life?

A. This process is not a quick fix, it is a way of life. Through one to one counseling, group sharing, and being a part of a community of people putting this way of life into practice, thus actively caring for themselves and those around them, you learn how to enter into the journey of personal growth where your problems are turned into opportunities. The power of this process is in the fact that you learn life-skills that stay with you and continue to grow in you for the rest of your life. Imagine having this to pass onto your children.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. That depends on you. At the Inner Harmony Center, we do our best to cater for everyone. If you really want to put in the effort and grow, we will find a way to help you do that, which will suit your budget. It is a matter of priorities also. How much is health and harmony for the rest of your life worth? How important is this to you. Is it worth rearranging your life a little bit to accommodate this opportunity? At the end of the day, like all things, you will get out of it what you put into it.

Q. You say group sharing and being part of a community is an important part of learning the 5-Step Process. Is this just another "cult" people are going to get caught up in?

A. Cults promote emotional dependency on a particular leader and tend to restrict freedom of thought. There is a tendency for the people in the "cult" to see themselves as special and to be cut off, frightened and suspicious of the rest of the world. The community that is forming around the Inner Harmony Center is the direct opposite to this. Our goal is to help people become emotionally independent and self-empowered. We actively encourage freedom of thought. We also encourage and help people to connect to other resources in the wider community. We are about loving and accepting life, all life. Goodwill and cooperating amongst all people is our objective. We simply understand the importance of being part of a genuine community of like-minded people where we feel free and comfortable to be ourselves, even while we are going through emotional difficulty. Having fun together is another important feature of this conscious community.

Q. Is the 5-Step Process just another doctrine ?just another teaching to confuse us with.

A. I have studied many teachings and looked at many doctrines. I have found they all have something to say, but basically they are all saying much the same thing. I am not very interested in doctrine ?by doctrine I mean things we are expected to believe because some authority says so. My only interest is what works to bring health and well being into people’s lives. What I have done, therefore, is boiled them all down to a set of basic principles, or "laws" of consciousness, that seem to apply to everyone, a bit like the law of gravity applies to everyone. By applying these natural "laws of consciousness" to our life, our problems and confusions begin to sort themselves out and we start getting a genuine feel for how life works. I have been practicing these principles for the last 17 years and have helped and watched others do the same. I have experienced the benefits first hand. I see these principles or laws in action wherever there is good will and harmony amongst people.

Therefore, the 5-Step Process does not really replace any particular teaching. What it does is bring clarity to what you are already learning. Of course it can be used as your main teaching. We have more than enough material on hand at the center to keep you going for as long as you need.

Q. Do I need any special abilities to learn the 5-Step process?

A. No, but there are some requirements that apply to learning anything. For one you need to give it a chance. We are searching for such a program because we want to improve our lives. We may be suffering from emotional difficulties and confusion. It will naturally take a little while for us to get a feel for what the process is about. It is not realistic to expect to understand the process in one counseling session or for miraculous changes to occur in your life in one month. That is like expecting to get a university degree in one month. We tend to forget that life is the biggest lesson we have. We don’t tend to learn it because we simply don’t apply ourselves. It is an unfortunate tendency in human nature to think love and life-skills should just magically occur to us, and yet we spend years learning maths and english, or studying for a career. Meanwhile the life-skills that ensure that we have loving and harmonious relationships with our partners and our children get little time and effort.

We all have trouble accepting that we didn’t gain all of these skills in our upbringing. In reality, few of us actually did. The world is the way it is for this very reason. The sooner we accept this important fact and accept the responsibility for doing what it takes to learn these essential life-skills, the sooner this world will be a much happier place. It all starts with our own self.

Therefore, what it takes to learn this process and gain the marvelous benefits of it, is to give it your time and effort. This is how we learn anything.

Q. What will I get out of learning the 5-Step Process? How will it benefit me?

A. Few of us realise how poorly we care for ourselves and what little regard we have for ourselves. However, a little honest self-reflection soon reveals the true picture, which comes as a bit of a shock to many. We are usually not aware of this because we are too caught up in our problems and the difficult circumstances around us. We can blame those circumstances for how we are feeling, and in some ways there is validity in this. However, if we look at it squarely we have to admit that our directions in life are determined by the decisions we make. The decisions we make are determined by how in touch with ourselves we are and how well we care for ourselves. The 5-Step Process first and foremost shows us how to build a loving and caring relationship with ourselves. My experience has shown that everything else falls into place from this.

Wonderful!

I went to the site Misty and am very impressed by a number of things.  The Chakra clearing page is going to be definitely used.  I'm thinking about getting a couple of books.

The poem by P.H. Golding is sooo true.  Thought it was appropos to post it under these 5-Steps.

ODE TO FEAR

In days of downturned eyes and wounded heart,
I lay prostrate at your feet.
You were my master then.

I was your humble servant.
Dared not look at your terrible presence.
You shrouded me in comfortable darkness.

My imagination you ruled with your skillful ways.
I kept your commandments and kept my distance
From those who walked with open eyes.

With you as my god I was greater than all,
And less than the rest.
And I avoided the battle at all cost.

But the battle kept finding me nonetheless,
And I fort the fight with the best of them.
Until my heart lay dying on your battlefield.

Wounded and bleeding I lay.
I could fight no longer.
Gone was my strength and my weapons were broken.

Beaten, I surrendered to the enemy,
And prepared myself for death,
But miraculously life came instead.

Today I too walk with open eyes,
And see you as you are,
As you unwittingly lead me to myself.

Your flaming breath is but hot air.
Your terrible presence a facade.
Your commandments lies and falsehoods.

My imagination truth now rules.
My commandment is now love.
My heart is filled with the presence of the One.

Thank you for posting these wonderful truths.

Love, Beck
