The Tarot is a method of divination which uses a deck of cards. Each card is called an arcanum and the deck is spilt into two arcana - The major acarna of 22 cards and the minor arcana of 56 cards. The origins of the Tarot are not entirely clear, however origins are believed to date back to India approximately 3000 years ago, and brought to Europe in the 10th centuary.

 The major Acarna symbolise major / important situations in your life and different people in your life. They are like the guideposts along the way, and can give us valuble insight. The cards that indicate people are the Court cards, and the Minor Arcana represent minor /everyday situations that we face. The Minor Acarna number 56 and come in 4 different suits - Wands, Coins/ Pentacles, Swords, and Cups. And range from the Court cards in each suit to the ten numbered cards in each suit.

 

To get to know the Tarot it is best to familarise yourself with the Major Arcana first
