What are Tarot Cards ?

These are many types of what may be classed as fortune-telling cards on the market these days, but not all of them are Tarot cards.

The Tarot is a specialized set of cards that have a very long history . Some claimed that they derive from the ancient Egyptain civilization, but others think that are European in origin and date from various mystical traditions some time around the period of the Crusades.

A Tarot deck is similar to an ordinary pack of playing cards. Both have four suits numbered from ace to ten. In a Tarot deck these are know as the Minor Arcena, and instead of Clubs, Hearts, Spades and Daimonds, the Tarot suits are Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles.

Unlike an ordinary pack of cards, each suit has four court cards rather than three: King, Queen, Knight and Paige, making fifty-six cards in the Minor Arcana.

In addition to the Minor cards, the tarot deck has twenty two "extra" cards known as Major Arcana. These do not belong to any suit, but have their own numbers (with the excepttion of the fool), a symbolic image and a title.

If, when doing a reading, more Minor cards occur than Major, then your destiny is most likely in your hands. If it is the other way around, fate governs your future.

Each interpretation is divided into upright and reversed meanings showing the positive and negitive effects of the cards. However it is permissible to use only the upright interpretations for the beginner.

The first rule is to become fimilar with your cards. Get to know the pictures, which we also are hoping to help through using this message board. Shuffle them alot and you may even carry them around with you, or sleep with them by your bed so that they absorb your own personal energies and become uniquely yours.

Many people wrap there cards in black silk and/or a wooden box. The important thing to remeber that these cards are yours alone and should be special to you, so look after and repect your cards.

Once you feel this connection and have made these cards your own , then becomes the time to start practicing reading them. I hope that this board may help some of you in this process :)

Blessings Misty

Okay Misty its 4:30 am here and you know what i never got this post you put up here was my lame attemp at this. I already did so I'll add even though you did a way better Job.
What is Tarot?
The easiest answer I can give to this question is to describe the basic of a tarot deck.
This my personal way of looking at it many other readers may look at it another way.

1 Wands
2 Cups
3 Swords
4 Pentacles
Standard packs 4 set
14 cards each= 56 cards

0 Fool
1-Magus or Magician
2-High Priestess
3-Empress
4-Emperor
5-Hierophant
6-Lovers
7-Chariot
8 Strenght or justice
9. Hermit
10. Wheel of Fortune
11. Justice or Strength
12. Hanged Man
13. Death
14. Temperance
15. Devil
16. Tower
17. Star
18. Moon
19. Sun
20. Judgment
21. World

Whats the difference between a reversal and or Significator?
I think its a personal choice question I find that a reversal is my Significator upside down.

What deck is best?
LOL Again personal chioce here. I believe that any standard or starter deck
is good for any new reader.
Okay all I'll add about spreads later today I need some rest:-)

Hope I helped some.
