Mike,

Having looked at the plan for the Top Corridor,I'm sure that the windows overlooked the rear of the building not the front.
However,after a quarter of a century,I could be mistaken.

Nick,

Maybe  I need a "N-S-E-W" arrow for bearings purposes on my pics - however in my pic I have the windows on the Top Corridor facing towards the front (opposite from fountain direction).

I know the windows on Gerry's corridor did face "fountain-wise" as it overlooked the 'quad' of grass between chapel dorm and the chapel

Maybe this is what your thinking of ....

The reason I "know" that the windows faced "front-wise" (even thought the view of the front was shielded by a steepled roof) was that we used to climb out of the windows onto a flat roof. You could then scamper up a sorta ramp to get on to the flat roof proper. We carved our names on the Lead roof tiles - it was clear people had this idea long before we did !!!

Mike

Just a few points of interest:
With reference to GROUND FLOOR MAIN BUILDING

1. Unsure about the existence of G7...?
2. G10 split into 4 rooms. From the outside door going into the building was an unused `hairy` bathroom with adjacent empty room, orange bogs, ladies/teachers bogs and then an unused storeroom.
3. G9 split into 3 rooms. Mostly for storage though the one opposite G4 led into an old railway room (which could only be seen through the washroom window upstairs or from Bees dorm fire doors.
4. Where you have marked out "To Top Corridoor" were doors leading down to an unused cellar. Those stairs going up were between G24 and G25.
5. G23 was the cleaners staff room. G24 was the changing room and the shower room combined. (then those stairs going up) and then G25 was Mrs Proctor`s office.

Just remembered, on the middle corridoor:
W4 = 50 dorm, W5 = 51 dorm, W6 = 52 Dorm (woz ere 89-90), W7 = 53 dorm, W10 or make it W8 = 54 dorm.

Very nice job indeed on the floorplan, Mike.

On the top floor, in TC9 dorm, the questionable structure of the caved in roof......This is actually where I put my foot through it whilst having a sly smoke up in the loft above the dorm in the Spring of 1981. To this very day, I don't know what caused the fire up there which caused the fire (hence burning through the joists and weakening the whole ceiling). After it happened, I checked out the site of the fire, and there was an electrical junction box of some description in very close proximity to the site of the fire, so my guess is it was that which blew out, and not the result of some careless tossing of some lit cigarette butt. Anyway, it was because of this incident, whether my actual fault or not, that was cause for my expulsion from the school. At the time,  don't think I had any regrets about leaving the place.

Mike,

What time (year) is the floorplan based on, as I presume it is sometime well after 1981.......all that time, and they still didn't get the roof fixed? /me sighs

Dear All,

I was wondering if anyone knew how we might be able to get the proper plans for the layout of the School

Are there public records? Bri  is normally quite good at this sort of thing?!

Matron might gives us a copy, but she might not be too keen!!

Any ideas please?

I've had a go in the past of a sort of mock-up plan but I'd far rather the real plans .. see below:

Nah, unfortunately I haven't got anything like that Mike, and I haven't seen anything like it anywhere yet.

Back to Photoshop for you then..!

Bri,

Cheers - and I guess so !!!

Maybe we can get a high-resolution scan of one of those ariel photos of the school ... and that might help get to a better overall picture of the school ...

Hi Mike,
Hope the floor plans work out better than the "Drive" plans !!
Matron gets confused by the school layout, as the last time I spoke to her she was still looking for her keys which she thinks might be in "Big Dorm" or "First Dorm".
Laurie
PS
Justy can you please return her keys, I'm sure you must have duplicated them by now.
