Spirit is timeless.  It is formless.  Across millennia, It manifests in mundane things, in ordinary ways, in subtle relationships with Nature --- and through all of us as we wind a slippery path strewn with greed, guilt, pity, anger, and the occasional Coke bottle.

And sometimes -- folks write things that display Spirit's presence.

I don't often suggest to folks that they read a specific letter - or even that they read anything at all.  After all, I'm a subtle old fart -- if ya don't ask for a serving, ya might go hungry at my table.

But I read Hoop's "An Invitation".....and I was struck in the forehead by the presence of subtle Spirit --- in a mundane posting, at a mundane community site, on a typical day in the life of a fart.

Yeah - it was from a Native American Elder --- and I know alot of yas don't want to read Pow-Wow talk or hear about the Great White Spirit.  Well - the letter ain't like that.  It is a message that you all can profit from, regardless your race or gender or religion or sexual persuasion.

So I am suggestiing that -- if you have not yet read "The Invitation"  - posted on this community site.....that you put down whatever else you are watching or reading --- and Make Time to read this letter.  Turn off the TV - turn down the Radio, leave the newspaper on the bathroom floor --- and read "The Invitation".

And if you cannot find a sliver, a smidgeon, a speck of Spirit that reaches out and SMACKS you in the forehead, and says --- Wake up...time to go to work in this Wurld.........

then your mind's eye is blind to Spirit, and I will cry for you on this day.

And then I'll move on.

blessing be, kids

So, I'm not the only one that got smacked in the forehead.

To Hoop: The Invitation has been with me since you first shared it with us in chat. I couldn't wait for it to be posted so I could read it again. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

To Everyone: I'm not one to really get into poetry and stuff. Most of the time, it never does anything for me and I move along without giving it a second thought. So, honestly, I was expecting to read The Invitation, think it's nice, shrug, and move on. This DIDN'T happen. It grabbed me and demanded my attention. It's one of those rare things that comes along and SPEAKS to you. So go give it a read. See if it tugs at you a bit. I'm betting it will.

Just wanted to add my two cents

I read this piece after reading The Long Step Outward (for like the 15th time)......and thought how together they spoke volumes.  Is this a mission statement for Spiritual Development?  I think perhaps it is.  It was most curious how the 2 pieces are so closely inter-twined....one in the framework of teaching and one in the framework of self-reflection.

Hoop when you shared this piece initially in the room...i was dumbfounded....couldn't stop reading and re-reading it.  I copied so that i would never lose it.  The goals that this piece outlines are being accepted into my own goals for life and my own spiritual cause.  I thank you for sharing it.
Light and many Blessings,
Laurel

The first time Hoop showed me "an invitation" I had a knew understanding of who I am. I have never been happy with the surface of things. I have always looked deeper, beyond just what is seen. Some native american cultures call this Owl medicine, the ability to see beyond the mask. It is disconcerting for folks to be looked at in this way, making it difficult to make ,as well as keep friends. I have been fortunate enough to find others who share this medicine with me and are not afraid of my rather intense gaze. Hoop is one of those very special people and I thank her for sharing this path with me(L) Love and light to you all and may you be as lucky as I on this journey:)
