250 years ago today, on 29 September 1758, Admiral Lord Nelson was born.
He is GB's greatest naval hero who after a series of victories over the French and her allies was killed at the battle of Trafalgar. In 1801 he was created Viscount Nelson of the Nile and of Burnham Thorpe, later that same year he was created Duke of Bronte by the King of Naples.

Flash, nice piece on the History Channel about our Royal Family, the Kennedy's.  When patriach Joe Kennedy was admitted to Harvard he was outcast by the effete proddy WASPS because he was an R.C. & an outsider. Even if he had the money it was not the right "old" money of the eastern elite & he was denied entrance to the fraternities & clubs where they networked. He made up his mind then to make em pay for their snobbery.  FDR appointed him as ambassador to GB to get him out of Washington because he had aspirations politically & this was a good place to hide him out away from the action. Of course old memories die hard & Joe was very outspoken re: GB's starting WWII, & the rest is history.

I have an Aussie friend who sees Gallipoli quite differently than you limeys.  Something about Churchill withdrawing the English regiments while sending the Aussies & Kiwis as cannon fire & then withdrawing naval support. He does not think much of Churchill but I suppose he is wrong eh?

WHAT HE DID WAS HAVE SERVICEMEN KILLED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE Atlantic and argue whatever you want that was wrong . SOCIAL GRUDGE OR NOT.

DENY THAT

SO T-DOG SAYS THAT GANGSTER CONTACT KENNEDY WAS SOCIALLY PUT DOWN BY PRODDIES ETC SO IT'S OK HE GOT SOLDIERS AND SAILORS KILLED. IT EVENS THE SCORE.

Flash, no just an opinion & you know what "they" say about opinions.  Seemed to fit your prior post to one of our departed members re: life experience being more important rather than book learning eh?

Tom, re 53... your friend sees it as his prejudice dictates he should. Is he of Irish decent? As I have told you, Australians were commanded by Australians, a fact that they have singualy failed to get their heads around. I have spoken to just two Australians about it in my time and both carried the same view, yet none had read a single book on it, they just regurgitated the same old blather. If Galipoli had been a success, it would have all been down to them. Claim the glory, deny the gory.

Tom only has friends of Irish descent.  Male friends. Small squeaking Catholic ones.

Sean exempted.

Flash, ref #57 - I never posted my Aussie friend was there, similar to you repeating tales of daring do by your father. Just an opinion that differs from yours & draws the usual vitriol from you.

Very simple Tommy

you want to drag every anti British observation into every unrelated post, then you get vitriol. Your choice and I know which way you prefer to choose.

Because your hatred of the British, not Mark or Major or Jimbert but our nation is far more pervasive than you pretend.
