Do Pigeons Limp?

So easy it is
To know and to think.
Armoured with knowledge
 of all weighty things.
Ignorance indeed
Is slow death itself
With the stagnation
It finally brings.

But where is the rot
And where does it stop?
Is the armour of knowledge
Now pride?
You saw the pigeon ?
Did you see it limp?
Is knowledge what you
See fit to decide?

(Copyright Gordon A. MacIntyre, November 1995)

Do Pigeons Limp? (Revised)

It begins with observation’s awareness
In the clarity of a moment revealed
I see the growing world through clearer eyes

It begins with observation’s awareness
A gradual dawning of miscomprehension
And acceptance that all is yet to be learned

So much remains unseen until seen
In the clarity of a moment revealed
A pigeon limps across a concrete stage

Awakened to the shadows of arrogance
And the confinements of my universe
I see the growing world through clearer eyes

Merlin

really liked armoured with knowledge of all weighty things  and the stagnation too..hmm infact I rather like em both Gordon  the first for its shorter lines  and its ambiguity   the second for its clarity   so   umm   can't choose and won't !!

Clearer eyes ....yet everyone will always see things in different ways, so maybe the first one is my favourite ...good rewrite

As far as I can see, pigeons are the same as everyone else. If they damage their leg, ankle or foot, they will ipso facto limp. Just joking Gordon. But seriously, though, maybe Scottish pigeons really do limp, especially if they've been bitten by a haggis.

I've never seen a pigeon with a plaster on its leg before.

This is a rather deep write Gordon...very expressive though, can't add much to what is said, you did a great job ... will have to read it again...maybe to digest it...

Deep and wonderful write Gorden...you aren't really talking about pigeons are you...they are used as metaphors? But then I could be wrong.

I enjoyed the premise of both of these, Gordon, but the second (for me)
gives a clearer testiment to the growth of 'self' as well as the growth of awareness
and that is what 'growing; is all about, the learning curve of being to recognise...
what is...and what isn't.

Much insight to 'living and seeing life' from it's many perspectives' portrayed in your words, Gordon,  Zy

Cheers, Stella. The first maybe says more, but I think I still prefer the first for reading. (And I like the ambiguity, too!)

Perspective is indeed unique, Jen. So "clearer" is purely from a personal perspective. Thanks!

lol! Only if it was some tame sassenach haggis that bit it, Phillip. A bite from a "proper" wild haggis would leave nothing but feathers and a burp.

How about a crow with a crutch, Lynn?

Thanks for taking the time to re-read, Maria. You have it dead right! Although, there was an actual pigeon involved. (I noticed a pigeon one day in central station that was limping - who knows why?! Anyway, it ocurred to me that I must have seen thousands of pigeons before and at least one must have been limping, but for some reason I had never noticed - a bizarre thought, I know!) That got me thinking - how much more in life is like that? "seen" but not "observed" as Holmes would say. Anyways, that was the inspiration, but, yes, the rest is metaphor. How much do we really know? Brilliant response, Maria. Thanks again!

Thanks, Zy. The first (for me) is more a realisation and a question. The second, from hindsight looking back, a development/refinement on the thought process. A chastisment to self not to be complacent. I still prefer the first, artistically. I'll maybe rework some...
