Right now there are horrendous server problems. Many communities, including ours, have lost their custom pages. Many people have lost their photos. At times like this it would be hazardous to attempt any changes either on your community or on your photo albums. My advice is to wait until things settle down. Especially in communities that you already know are affected by the problem. |

Thanks for the reassurance of "This Too, Shall Pass," HGP...It just seems like Odd People gets more than a "Normal Share" of it's problems. ~Uncle~ |

We offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that you are encountering. We're currently experiencing availability issues on our live site, due to the hardware failure we encountered yesterday. The product team has already been informed about the issue that you are reporting to us and is fully engaged in bringing the site up to full availability. They are currently working on it and should resolve the matter soon. Please bear with us in this regard.
I found this posted on CF. I am not sure if this is true, but I read once that some of the older communities do have more problems. It seems logical. I know, on a smaller level, I can start with a freshly formatted computer and through normal use (or misuse) It gradually degrades. Seems almost like a reformatting might be seen as a normal maintenance procedure. So Odd People, a community that has been around almost as long as communities and survived through numerous upgrades and changes, might be hosted on a server that has seen better times. |

Well, it seems that they are getting the problem resolved. We have our pages halfway back (they are there but they are empty). Files and documents are still AWOL, as are many photos. I would continue to wait. Do not edit anything until we know for sure they have recovered all that they can recover. |

See...This is the problem HGP...I want to delete my 'Uncle Albert' album and my 'Art By Uncle' album. I have no way of editing nor even deleting them! Things have changed in my life and I wanted to delete photos and descriptions that are in there in order to add new photos and descriptions. I cannot do neither. If at all possible, could Ubie, Bubbles, Sootsy or yourself delete these albums please? And if you do delete them, will I be able to add more albums. Also, what happened to the members pics? I have had no trouble whatsoever with any of my groups, but it seems as if Odd Poeple gets more than it's share of problems. Help me HGP, Please? ~Uncle Frustratus~ |

Hi Uncle. Since that one upgrade, or maybe some server problem before that, it has been impossible to do anything with any of the images. We cannot just delete an album, we have to take out a pic one at a time, but it is a little more time consuming than just that. Last I knew, you have to delete the pic, get a "hmmmmmm cant find" screen and return to the album and then delete another one. We have to do that for every one of the pics in every one of the albums. We are working on the albums, but in the meantime we are also trying to recover a lot of other things. Yes, we have had a lot of those server problems. But look at it this way... Odd People was one of the earliest communities. Therefore we were in one of the oldest servers. We weathered more of the changes than most communities and came out a little tattered. But, the best thing is that we are still here, and we are prospering (you just can't see it all the time). MSN didn't have a lot of experience in the community business, and communities like Odd People helped them learn. It is a little frustrating, I know, but they have learned a lot (as we have). And I guess that is a small price that we are all paying for being community pioneers. The member photo's are still there for everyone to use, and I think that will be the way we plan on continuing. It wouldn't be good right now to be adding pics in a lot of different places because Sootsy is doing a lot of hard work in the albums right now. It is hard enough without making her sort out the old from the new. You know, what a lot of people are doing (and I think it is a good idea given the continual problems that this community seems to have) is opening communities just for photo album storage. They either link to the album to show people, or they copy and paste. |

If you are wondering what happened to the photos in the member's albums, the answer is that those older files got so corrupted that we could not recover them. We tried very hard, through a variety of means to recover them, We waited for a long time because we knew MSN was trying to come up with some solution, but there is nothing anyone can do. They just are gone. I even learned how to install web folders and work with them so I could try that way. |

Well said HGP. :>) Yes indeed Sootsy is as busy as a bee going thru all of the old albums and removing the photos one by one. When the photo album clean up is all done I will let you open up a new album uncle. We will also open up a number of new albums for everyone to use. The old albums will be cleaned out and deleted since none of the photos can be viewed anymore anyway. Give us a little time and we will be caught up to you. :>) Hugs Ubergato (Overcatus Workus) |
