I think vampires do wolves as pets...cats wouldn't work for much the same reason dogs don't ....they would tend to view dirt filled coffins as handy litter boxes.... :>)

Well, as vampires are generally nocturnal, I would think they would keep nocturnal animals (owls, bats...) as pets, so they would be awake at the same time.  I've heard that guinea pigs are somewhat nocturnal, but I imagine they would be a kind of wimpy pet for a vampire (doesn't sound that impressive).
