 United States

Canada

National Symbol is the eagle,
noble and proud.

Well ours is the beaver,
no rude comments please.
Tho a rodent, the beaver is industrious and perseverent. (like me)

Anthem is the Star Spangled Banner. A bit hard to sing but soul-stirring nonetheless.
(click on icons for a musical treat)

Anthem is O Canada - hymlike but stately. Half the country reportedly doesn't even
know the second line.  (I do!)

The flag is the Stars and Stripes.

The Maple Leaf, er, um, a red leaf on a white background with red borders.
Kinda nice actually.

Leader:  Dubya!

Leader: Duh!(I mean of course, Jean Cretien!)

Most powerful country in the world!

Second largest, cleanest, prettiest (ooops, I am biased tho, sorry)

Cuisine: Mom's Apple Pie

Cuisine:  Poutine (cheese curds and gravy on french fries), maple syrup, Tourtiere (all this food might be unhealthy but it's yummy tho)

Odd People:

Ubergato and Fumble

Odd People:

Ack, I'm outnumbered!!!

An absolutely great thread Bubbles! I have nothing against Canada nor it's people per say, it's just that my family left Canada (Actually Nova Scotia) because they did not want to follow the rules of the King of England...Heh...We don't need no stinkin' rules! But I always wanted to visit Canada. I heard that it's a very beautiful country...So now you have one up on the U.S.A.!

Oh, and I've always thought that the U.S.A. should change their national anthem...The Star Spangled Banner is very hard to sing and has the music of an old English Pub song...America The Beautiful would be sooooo much better!

Wonderful post Bubbles! Nice work! Living close to the border I frequent Canada every few months or so, you are right about it being cleaner. 'Specially when it sits next to Detroit LOL. My favorite thing though is going through the customs guards. They are kinda like the police for me and well thats a long story... Anyways, I thought the last guard was going to throw me across LOL. The questions they ask "Well, ma'am where are you going?" "Over there" pointing straight ahead. "No, ma'am, what town?" "Well, the one that's right in front here, don't you know the name of it? You live here don't you?" Getting upset now "Ma'am, do you know what TOWN you are going to visit?" "Sure, Toronto, the one that's right in front of us." "Ma'am, that's Ontario." "OHHH Yeah, that's it! Well what do expect? I don't live here." "Ok, ma'am, where are you from?" "Well, back there." Pointing backwards. Mind you everything was done with a totally blonde tone of voice, nothing was mean...I'm blonde I can do that LOL. When I looked at his face, I couldn't help it. I busted out laughing. He was so enraged at me. He says "Do you reside in the state of Michigan?" "Yup" "Are you SURE?" "Yes, sir" "Why are you coming over here?" "For a drive, I needed to break change for a $20 and didn't want to stop in Detroit." The quard looked at me and started laughing. He asked me to stop by his booth on the way back through.

I wanted to take the opportunity to wish all Canadiens a happy holiday, and all Americans a Happy Independence Day.  I hope that it is safe for all.   As for Canada, I have only been there a couple times, (in Saskatoon, SA) visiting friends, and in Vancouver BC to visit the inlaws, and I drove the AlCan once... I really would like to go back.  It is so nice to have friends up North, and I find it interesting that the Untied States and Canada are the only two countries in the world who share a border and have never had a major conflict...we can ALL be proud of that.

Signed, a resident of Estados Unidos de Mexico   (just kidding...it seems a lot of our Southern friends want in on what we have...I for one think that we should all join and become one big happy continent called, what else? AMERICA!)

As for the anthem, I think it is cool that we have chosen a British beer drinking song as our anthem.   We in America are the trash that has been run out of every honorable country in the world, and now they look to us for guidance.  Hows that for irony?  Just thought I'd point out this odd point of view...

That's neat Bubbles.  Sometimes I actually forget that we come from different countries.  Hmmm ...  think one day there will be a world without borders?
