There's a down side to living in certain towns that have one major industry, whether it be supporting a college or tourism, or seasonal workers. When that sphere of activity stops, the town tends to shut down. This is the case with regard to those little towns in the Alaska Panhandle -- when the crusie ships are off season, places such as Ketchican and Skagway largely close down, and nothing happens. That can be rough if you want to get a dinner at night. |
